I suspect they were pretty common up until the USA If shit doesn’t make You proud You should find somewhere else to live Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this 1960s. My parents’ 3 bed Semi built in the late 50s had one. About 45 x 30cm, had a thin cover that slid to one side. I can’t recall it ever being used for it’s purpose. By the 80s the cover was jammed with being painted too much. I’d assume all the houses on their road would have had one when built. The kitchen was tiny, like 10×6 feet or maybe less. With 3 doors into it, so even less space. Originally the whole house only had 5 or 6 individual electric sockets. Different times the 50s/60s. I had one in the house I lived in up until last year, think it was built in the 40s. I liked it. It was also funny to see the dogs head pogo up and down in it when we put him in the kitchen cos we were eating in the dining room. We had one around 30 years ago in the council flat we lived in. The problem was that the dinner table was located right up against it. One day I smashed open the doors and my brother got a full on face load of serving hatch door. Great days.

Your poor brother! I’m an only child but I use to pretend to throw my cousin though it before he was was stronger than me haha. Think it was considered a fire hazard We used to have a hatch that was only used at Christmas, now it’s blocked up and we have to walk round to the dining room. I miss my hatch. The kitchen is north facing and windows have lots of trees in it so it can get quite dark. I want to fill it in They bought the house from her parents – when her parents still lived there I remember being there at Xmas as a kid and it being used to pass drinks through. Serving hatches were slowly replaced by the complete removal of the wall, but were a part of most homes in my youth. Yes! Between the kitchen and dining/living room. Use it multiple times a day. I could just carry plates in. But via the hatch is more convenient, quicker and less prone to gravy spillage. Dad filled it in with a bit of plywood about 10/15 years ago now so they could have shelves on the dining room side and more kitchen counter space
