I commute from Didcot to North London – today it took me 3 hours to get home. Luckily my relationship has broken down and I’m moving back to London in 3 weeks. Old boss of mine who was very senior travelled in from just below Leeds 3 says a week. His annual train ticket was over 10,000 a year. Company helps all employees with a 75% discount on that though but still a huge hit. To avoid travel cost, I’d also come back on super off peak. Safe to say I didn’t sleep much and worked constantly. One of my UCL professors back in 2018/19 travelled to London from Portugal once a week to give us our weekly course lectures. Full time? Or part time commutes? I’ve known people who did part time commutes from Northern Ireland and Paris. Used to do Newcastle to Kings Cross and back 3 times a week. Fucking awful. 7:00 Flying Scotsman out, 6:00 pm train back. And they wonder why I quit. Had a girl I knew from near Birmingham come to London.
