Massie told Bowman, “You know, there’s never been a school shooting in a school that allows teachers to carry.” It’s hard to imagine a teacher feeling confident enough to fire their gun in a situation where missing or a ricochet meant killing one of their students. This idea that arming teachers is a solution is a pipe dream. It’s almost like we have a reason for specialized weapons and tactics units. As though most people are incapable of moving TOWARD a threat without undergoing physical training and mental conditioning to combat it guns don’t really work in situations where you have to defend. even when taking down a threat, you have to act in an offensive way, such as when police storm a building. your best bet is to take shelter.

surprised by a gunman? good luck getting it out in time before you’re shot, or more properly, going to your proper gun safe to retrieve it and load it. The news article can’t confirm whether the Uneeda medical supply you need it we got shirt moreover I will buy this staff that had guns were at the school or not. But let’s say they were. Would they have guts to stop the shooter? That might be a good middle ground. But here’s the thing: 1. shouldn’t we make changes teachers can TEACH and not have to even think about having to protect their students? 2. Even if a teacher is barricaded in their classroom, still doesn’t guarantee they’d be much help. They’d most likely have a hand gun vs a AR-15. Even people with military combat training freeze up or miss, or accidentally shoot someone else in the cross fire. This isn’t a movie where the “good guy” can just aim and shoot the “bad guy” in one shot. Admittedly I don’t have a solution because it’s a symptom of so much wrong with America. Guns are a “constitutional right” (which is BS because there’s no way the folks who wrote it could predict the capability of guns today.) There are too many guns in America, so no way to ban or round them up like in other countries. America also does not have universal healthcare or education and people go into debt just to obtain both. The poor are getting poorer, the middle class gone. No one takes mental health seriously, especially that of men. There’s a constant culture war going on, where the media and politicians divide us further each day. Laws are being passed in some places stripping peoples rights, such as the anti-trans bills, banning books, and banning abortions. In America it feels no one gives a shit about us, as long as the Big Corporations are happy and profitable. All of this to say, if we fix all of this it would greatly reduce gun violence. But I have no hope we will, because after countless horrendous shootings our leaders made it clear the corporations and profit matter, not the lives of children.
