People from Kerala seem to me the Ukiyo E Minions shirt Also,I will get this most adaptable types when it comes to hindi, they quickly pick up the language though broken one but still comprehensible. I am in the exact same boat. Dad from punjab and mom from kerala and I grew up in kerala. I shifted to hyderabad for work. I can speak decent hindi since parents spoke in hindi with each other at home and i speak in english with dad and siblings ( yes pretty werid i know ) . Not enough for a fluid conversation, but just enough to live by. Lot of north Indians in the team I work in and it gets tough to engage in group conversations because it’s always Hindi only and it gets super frustrating. One thing I do now is , irrespective of what others speak, I speak in English. I believe my spoken English is pretty good, so I gave up trying to speak in Hindi and just stuck to english and luckily they don’t mind me speaking in English in between conversations either. And now I find no trouble to engage in conversations even at parties. Knowing enough hindi to get by is more than enough since most of the people you would be interacting regularly would be educated folks anyway. And if someone sticks to hindi only with you or wants you to learn hindi then screw them.

I’m half Telugite/ Gujju. Can’t speak any Indian language. People are disgusted by me at times because they think I am making it up or embarrassed to be Indian or something.
