I’m glad I applied to colleges before standardized tests started being done away with. Was a pretty poor high school student (<3.5 GPA) for a host of reasons that didn’t have to do with struggling with the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this material, but got a near perfect standardized test score that got me into some colleges that I didn’t have much business getting into otherwise I work with and have lived with teachers my whole life(Mom, MIL and wife all teachers(though not myself)). Standardized tests are a complete waste. Half the year they train kids for the tests not actual teaching. Edit: yep teachers continue to be ignored the by the masses. These tests don’t test key skills like logical thinking and arguments. So that doesn’t get taught much and now we have half a nation that memorizes misinformation instead of processing it. Half of the problem is that the tests are poorly designed. If students get marks for memorisation, then obviously all those tests do is encourage kids to memorise. On the other hand, testing for reading comprehension or reasoning will actually be useful for students in the long run. Practical mathematics such as percentages help people understand loans and interest. Learning how to write CVs will help in job searching.

Three is inherent value in standardised tests. There have been extreme cases where some schools have no kids who can read at grade level or have half of the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this students getting 0.0 GPA. Standardized testing makes these problems more glaring and difficult to ignore, which hopefully paves the way for better resource allocation or policy changes to help those students. Cancelling standardized tests just covers up the problem, the same way that a person who never has their blood pressure taken will never be diagnosed with hypertension. There are legitimate worries about the decline of education and standardized tests are one of the more objective ways of assessing the issue. There might be too much attention paid to standardized testing—especially at young ages—you could argue, but standardized tests being a waste is not a serious argument. Who should get into Medical school? Law school? We should get rid of those tests? Who can become a licensed electrician? Who gets their driver’s license? Standardized tests are necessary.
Standardized tests are a waste. But we have inflated GPAs in high schools so much they are worthless too. The level of work that gets a 4.0 today is a joke compared to what I would’ve needed for a 4.0 15 years ago Standardize testing is still the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this best option there is. It’s not perfect but there’s a reason it’s used in professional fields such as the bar exam, CPA, NAPLEX, etc. Grade inflation is real and only harms the kids until that very real problem is solved(by the very same people promoting it) standardized testing remains relevant. No amount of memorizing is going to allow you to automatically do well on the SAT. At best, memorizing vocab lists can help you on the verbal section, but you still need to be able to apply logical reasoning. I mean the SAT explicitly test critical thinking and problem solving. Yes, you can train for that test, which obviously means that privileged individuals will do better on it, but the reality is that that training is applicable to all learning.

About Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt
Not at all backed up by studies, it’s just easier to sort people based on results. The results themselves say almost nothing about the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this student or even what they are actually good at academically. The essay section for example is a formula it doesn’t test any kind of actual writing acumen. Hence why it’s not even tested anymore other than districts afraid it will come back so they still teach the essay testing even though it has nothing to do with writing. The only reason to even have college admissions is to make sure students are ready for college level education. Beyond that, ranking students to only accept the ‘top’ is pointless, and any system you use for admission will end up inequitable.
Schools should establish a ‘bar’ students need to clear that is created to identify students with the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this lowest chance of dropping out due to academic difficulties. This will probably require standardized tests but shouldn’t solely rely on then. All students who clear the bar should simply be put into a lottery for entrance. Bar and lottery. Standardized tests are deeply flawed metrics that amplify existing systemic discrepancies in education and wealth. My high school got caught in the news by letting kids pass by watching a movie in place of exams or papers. Grade inflation in high school is terrible. The SAT despite its many faults is a great equalizer. My high school got caught in the news by letting kids pass by watching a movie in place of exams or papers. Grade inflation in high school is terrible. The SAT despite its many faults is a great equalizer.
My high school got caught in the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this news by letting kids pass by watching a movie in place of exams or papers. Grade inflation in high school is terrible. The SAT despite its many faults is a great equalizer. Well, that’s not very smart. Regurgitation does not mean your intelligent. Standardized testing does not really show a persons, intellectual abilities. Very archaic They did exactly that removed standardized testing clearly the results were enough they could see it was a bad idea. I’m surprised to see so many people here are pro-standardized testing. As a (now) graduate student, I think standardized testing is a scam. The SAT, which is what I took before undergrad, doesn’t test for knowledge or literacy. The only way to pass it (unless you miraculously have a broadband knowledge of everything) is to know all the tricks to get the right answers. I learned absolutely nothing from the SAT other than how to take it, and it had no impact on my success as an undergrad. And it certainly has no impact on my success as a grad student. I don’t even remember what my score was.
Have you read the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this more recent studies on the SAT that have been a part of ivys going back towards reinstating them? If you look at the data beyond your own anecdotal experience, there’s a really clear case for it being a useful tool for college admissions, and the most equitable factor beyond just assigning admissions based on a lottery. The SAT is a more accurate predictor for future college success than grades, and is less dependent on a student’s financial or family privilege than any other single criterion used in admissions. There are multiple studies referenced and linked in the article that I posted, yes. They are the answer to your question as to why people are pro standardized testing. Nobody’s going to hold your hand through it, but if you care to know the answer, the information has been placed in front of you.
The article requires a subscription. Can’t you just link the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this papers directly instead of being a jerk about it? I’m looking all over Google Scholar for these studies, too. Did they only look at Ivy League? Did they explore causation? Did they account for re-takes (that’s more expensive)? Did they look at the content of the SATs and ACTs? I’ve taken the SAT, twice in fact. None of the test actually prepares you for college. All you learn is how to answer the questions to get a good score so you can get into a good college. Pinning standardized tests as the determining factor in college success is simplistic and narrow. College success is multifaceted. And correlation doesn’t imply causation. Retakes rarely matter. Students, statistically speaking, improve very little from one attempt to another. It’s actually one of the things that makes the SAT a really helpful evaluative tool.
You taking the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this SAT twice in fact doesn’t really have anything to do with these studies. So you know, the SAT isn’t intended to prepare you for college. If somebody told you that, they were wrong. That’s kind of like saying that you learn how to drive during your driver’s test. It is a way for universities to evaluate your preparedness and aptitude. It’s actually a much more accurate predictor of future college success than high school grades are. I work in college admissions and have evaluated thousands of applications, some with SATs and some in a test-blind process. 99% of the time that an SAT score makes a difference, it’s in the favor of a talented but underserved student from a school that is not traditionally a feeder for prestigious universities. It is absolutely a helpful tool for equity.
Can you please point out where in the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this article or any of the studies it was stated that test scores should be the determining factor? There is no school in the country that uses it as the only factor. It is one of several, and a really useful one. Bud, I am trying to answer your query about the SAT. I have put the information right in front of you. You can read it if you care to know the answer. If you want to do the learned helplessness thing, that’s fine too. You are picking a fight over nothing. The SAT is not a good metric when you can pay thousands of dollars to take a class to raise it hundreds of points. Edit: Not sure why people are downvoting me when I am simply echoing something universities have been saying for years. If you disagree then explain it.
if you read the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this article, the entire reason theyre doing this is because removing the SAT put low income kids at more of a disadvantage than when they used it. they are adding it back to help them get in also, you can do SAT prep with a book too. you dont need an extra class. Further, high income kids get benefits on nearly every other aspect of their life too. SAT prep is probably one thing they get the least advantage on cause the test and its conditions are still objective whereas grades, extracurriculurs, letters or rec, essays (and who reviews them) is less so It’s still a fairer metric than others. Extracurricular activities require money and other resources that low income students don’t always have access to. Plus, there are plenty of free and cheap test prep resources. It’s not perfect, but what is? Whichever metric you judge students on, the rich ones will ALWAYS have the advantage. You’re getting downvoted because you’re being dumb – or more charitably, ignorant. Yeah, a class can train you on how to take the test better… but the reason the class helps you do better is by teaching you problem solving and critical thinking skills. That training is directly transferable to other forms of learning. In other words, taking an SAT test prep course will probably make you a better student generally and enable you get better grades in high school and in university in addition to performing better on the SAT.
Just have the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this applicants go in a room with a blank, lined-paper or two and a pencil and tell them to write down their thoughts on the condition of the world and how they would want to make it better. That covers every discipline. Have a team of non-biased professors from different fields of study read them and there you have it. Should weed out the underperforming idiots. Applying their knowledge to real world problems is the key. If they can’t do that, then it’s just mental masturbation. I’d say the world has too much of that in one way or another. A college degree should have meaning. Else, CVs and resumes with degrees littered upon them mean squat. “Buyer beware.” I am glad I did most normal classes then took a college entrance exam instead of the sat/act. Then I just transferred to my university. I think I paid like 28-30k not including books and stuff.
Word to the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this wise unless your parents are paying 100% of your school, scholarship, or some type of grant its not worth it for living on campus or living out of state. You can blame the go to college at all cost mentality. I had to take a Gen Ed course that didn’t transfer over last semester. One of my lab partners would regularly miss class, missed a few labs, and I had to correct ALL of their work on a group project. They were straight out of high school and in the honors program. I just… bitch, how?! And before anyone asks, no, they did not do well on exams. I think they barely passed.
A friend built and office extension to the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this garage that you can reach through the utility room then garage and it means he’s undisturbed all day and visa versa he does not disturb anyone else if he’s on a long call. It’s good to be away and be able to concentrate on your work. Time goes by quicker if you are deeply involved in what you are doing and not distracted. Clearly much nicer in Summer, the question is do you want to pay to heat it all year round as it’s can be expensive. He had power run through but it was only a twin socket. A 1kw heater for 12 hours is 12 kw hrs a day – so perhaps £5 more if it’s really cold. Possible £10 a day £100 to £200 a month, depends how hardy you are. Be aware that if you have noisy neighbours then it will take the shine off it in the Summer. My neighbours had a 18yo who would come home open all the doors and windows and play his music at full volume whilst smoking pot sitting on the toilet and looking out the window at me. 12kwh x 0.27 = 3.24. even if its -10 outside it can’t use more than that because thats its limit. if you run it 24h/7 all month you indeed get to £200, however thats impossible. I’ve got an electric oil-filled radiator and a separate meter (beacuse the company pays my electic bill for the garden office) and it reads £50 to £70 max.
I laid the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this concrete foundation and built it myself. I haven’t insulated it as well as it could have been which I’m going to remedy this summer but I genuinely find it invaluable. I see someone else on this thread mentioned paying 15k and that blows my mind and is an insane amount of money. I make my coffee, walk outside and go to the office, the mental seperation between home and work is very much worth it. If I run my oil heater I spend £5 a day on it, if I have to go into the office I spend £9.20 a day just on travel. The range of cost is massive. I know people who work from sheds that cost them £1k to convert, while there are off the shelf options that go north of £40k. Permitted development doesn’t allow you to extend beyond the front elevation of the house, and if you live in a corner of two roads both sides of the house that face a road count as the “front”. So for me putting anything in what I consider the “side” garden classes as being in front of the house so needs planning.
If you do it properly, the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this cost of the timber and Kingspan alone will be very high. Obviously nowhere near £15k but they’re not cheap to build if you want it usable all year round. I’m currently in the process of moving the second desk out and revamping it as my wife has never worked down here (typing from it now). Going to get a bioethanol burner (highly recommend) in here along with a whisky cabinet and a couple of arm chairs. Not everyone has the skills, time or tools and if they can afford it and it improves their life why not. People spend that on cars all the time, and it’s cheaper than moving home or building an extension. I use mine all year but I have a small house and there isn’t a choice. Wouldn’t have been able to work remotely in a sane manner otherwise. If I had a bigger house I’d still want one because it physically separates the place I work from the house (as in, I have to go to work). It’s canny cold in the winter
I do think it makes a huge difference mentally. When I’m in the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this ‘office’ i’m working, which means when i’m in the house I don’t think about work. I’m sure some could have the same separation with a room office, but I never could. Walking into a different room is enough for me to switch from work. I have a desk in a separate-ish corner in the house. It’s the same for me as the less useful effect of walking through a doorway or upstairs and forgetting what you went there for. Mine is invaluable as it keeps the kids and wife away from me whilst I work. Built it so it was big enough for 2 desks and tumble dryer. Fully insulated so stays warm and doesn’t take much to do so. A small electric panel heater, cost £60 from B and M. It isn’t as noisy and doesn’t dry the air like a fan heater. I turn it on for around 30 minutes in the morning to heat the room, then it kicks in very occasionally to keep the temp around 21 degrees. One thing I’ve not seen mentioned yet is make sure you have good access to one! We’ve got a lovely playroom (which will become an office) built last year. Our worries about the cold and rain haven’t really been an issue, but it’s currently barely accessible as the entire lawn is a swamp ankle deep in mud. Next project is a proper path
I had mine built at the Tyrese Haliburton Hali Cely Big Balls funny shirt Besides,I will do this same time as my extension, built with the same materials, fully insulated and with heating. I use it all year round. It would have to be well built with significant insulation to avoid the glorified shed issue. I have colleagues who work from sheds and it sounds like hell. The issue with well built is it’s then more expensive, which risks pissing money away on something I abandon. I have a 3m x 3m log cabin at the bottom of the garden. It has electric, WiFi and heating. It’s used for whf and studying several full days a week and means the people in the house don’t have to worry about disturbing me, and I don’t get distracted by the door and stuff. In the summer, I have to put a parasol in front of the windows to keep the heat down, but it’s nice to open the double doors and work in the fresh air. In the winter, the heating does the job, and it’s pretty cosy.
