We have a hatch. It’s the Tyler Glasnow Base shirt But I will love this only means we have for plugging in the xmas tree lights and it’s useful if you want to watch TV whilst cooking. Have one here in Norway. Was built in when the house was built in the 40s. Kept it, and built a custom door for it so we can close when a guest sleeps in the living room (connected to dining room) for more privacy / less light. Love it, as it makes everything food service related so much easier. Fun fact: This is how TV got invented. The man who invented it got the idea after watching his wife nagging at him through the serving hatch. (That’s a Ken Dodd joke.) We have one (1950s house), we used it a bit when we were using the dining room as a dining room, but it wasn’t necessary.

Now we have moved things now it is only used by my son, who occasionally sticks his head through it to say hi whilst I cook. It will be going when we redo the Tyler Glasnow Base shirt But I will love this kitchen. We had one in our current house (1950s semi) Large lounge diner and smaller kitchen with a hatch between. We knocked through the hatch wall to make the kitchen bigger and built a wall between the kitchen and living room. We use houses differently these days. The back end of the living room (dining end) was never used as we don’t sit and eat meals at the table that regularly. Now we have an island and a table in the kitchen and use that much more regularly now. Maybe in 50 years time someone will come along and tear it to bits as things will change again. I did love the quirky hatch when we bought the house though, it was a definite selling point!
