I mean… you could also go onto others pages and post positive comments and get your name out there too? How will people know about your channel if you aren’t out there putting your name there where people can click on it to view your channel? As creators we should be putting our names out there by leaving nice comments on others videos within our niches and letting others reading those comments know that we exist. Because chances are if people are watching their channel and you offer something similar, then what harm is there in reminding others there’s another option? Just be cool about it and don’t “flagrantly” self promote, instead just thinly veil your promotion in a positive comment. Because there’s no harm in “I really loved when you talked about _______, we tried/covered/visited as well and documented it on our channel a few months ago but our experience was definitely much different/same than you scribed. It’s great to see how you covered _. I didn’t think of that perspective.”

I deleted his comment anyway because it bothered me even though maybe he was trying to help, I also saw it as him trying to take my content idea and get some easy views. Theres a huge different between people who genuinely enjoy your video and engage to you VS those who has hidden agenda for their own benefit. You are right for dealing with him this early. I personally don’t mind it, as long as the comments on my channel aren’t blatantly promoting their own content When I was live streaming on other platforms I ran into a lot of ideologies regarding “self promo” and saw a lot of drama between creators about it. To a point there can be issues with it in that space, but honestly if you look at your feelings truthfully you’ll see it’s just insecurity. I gave up any sort of mentality regarding that when making videos on YT because there’s not much time sensitive about that content. If people leave and go watch one of my commenters videos it doesn’t mean they won’t still watch mine and if they are leaving my video then there isn’t anything I could do to stop them outside of entertaining them better. I can’t control viewers but I can control my content, so I try to focus on that. From my personal experience as someone who comments on other creators videos who are making content around what I do: It’s just to network or share joy on a topic. I don’t think I hardly ever see any increase in subs or views from commenting on other videos, but I often get to meet other creators with similar interests and if they don’t respond or interact with me I can at least hope I’ve helped them out by adding engagement to their video. IMO one of the hardest things to do, but one that’s pretty crucial is to spend less time on what you think others are doing and have more time to concern yourself with what you’re doing.
