Everyone keeps mentioning that it’s about trust, but I don’t quite see it that way. I trust my wife with my life and that’s implicit in our marital vows. It seems like more of a matter of respect to our marriage to me. I wouldn’t ask another woman out, because it seems really disrespectful to our marriage. Am I alone in this? And I would really find it odd if she were to ask another man out alone to go drinking or clubbing. We don’t have any of these issues or desires in our marriage and we are both extremely active in our marriage and are best friends. Some people have open marriages and they trust their partners too, but that really crosses a line for me. Maybe I’m just old fashioned. My wife would never cheat and neither would I. But we aren’t really interested in relationships with people of the opposite sex outside of familial relationships. I have more close female friends than male friends because I don’t like sports, cars, hunting, or tools, and that eliminates a lot of important Man Stuff ™ that men bond over. Not all, of course – I have several close guy friends and a decent amount of casual friends. But most of my close friends are women, and my wife is not really given a choice as to whether or not that’s okay with her, because many of them have been my friends for 10-15+ years and it would be ridiculous to suggest I abandon most of my friends because they have a vagina.
