The ones asking for change at red lights and intersections go home, and the Top nature Is My Religion 1974 And the Earth Is My Church Tree shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this real homeless freeze to death in an ally somewhere. I spent a couple years as a working homeless in Norfolk, VA. Slept under a highway overpass. In the cold months two cheap sleeping bags were enough to keep me warm, even during blizzards, and a good set of Frog Toggs(a brand of windsuit) jacket and pants over sweatpants and a jacket fought the cold a long with a thermal gaiter and one of those long eared caps. You’d be surprised how many cave like locations there are cramped in and around cities. Most cities have layers of utility grids and often small portions are abandoned, beyond that natural caves and similar are around also. Abandoned buildings are often popular if there is a low chance of issues with the cops, but they are scary af because you are living in a target. That’s the big reason I always leaned towards secluded locations either hidden in plain sight or some little cave or street water drain pipe everyone forgot about between a few neighborhoods. Worst case scenario get tents and find an encampment, they are all over the place and you’d never see them. Once found there’s often 4 to 10 other people there roughing it and you can team up with them.

I knew a homeless guy who would go get arrested on purpose for (for him it was usually public urination) and stick out the Top nature Is My Religion 1974 And the Earth Is My Church Tree shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this winter in jail. There was a huge snow storm in Chicago years ago, and they were just dying until hotels and other places decided to open their door for them to ride out the storm. There aren’t nearly enough shelters in some places for everyone, and if you’re a man, you will be taken last or not at all depending on the shelter. Hotels – which are built to make money. Why not churches? Aren’t they supposed to be following the words of some old book? Hmm. Honestly I’ve met a few that just had me call the cops for them. They’d rather be in booking if it means being indoors. If anyone is interested, this past summer in Arizona, as of August 9,2023 there were 133 confirmed heat related deaths with 341 still under investigation. The heat and the cold are killers of the umhoused. Most of the shelters where I’m from, will not accept anyone that is intoxicated etc. so the police, on nights that it is bitterly cold (below 25f here) they will do a “round up” and bring them to jail (public intox). Just to get them to a warm place and get food. The judges let them go the next day or after a few days when the weather warms a bit. Our community is severely lacking when it comes to homeless services for those that have substance abuse problems. In my city, they have “white flag nights” when it is particularly cold, when shelters relax some of the requirements to take in as many people as they can. There will also be temporary shelters at schools and churches where people can go to warm up.
