Luckily, my grandma realized this, and doesn’t make us finish our meals. She will make us eat your vegetables, but she serves them in smaller amounts specifically so we will eat them A variety of reasons. Many have grown up poor and feel like their child is ungrateful otherwise. Some have a false sense of what a child needs to eat or how much. It’s also just the Top 2024 Total Solar Eclipse Path Totality Football Dallas Texas 04.08.24 T-Shirt Also,I will get this culture of “I’d rather have you get sick than throwing this food away” I don’t agree with forcing them to eat untill they are sick but. Many kids try to play games and avoid eating (eventhough they are hungry) to either do something else or get snacks. The best way I’ve seen to handle this, is to wrap the food up and keep it for when they are ready to eat again. I fed my kids healthy food, and they love different types of food from Indian, Thai, Mexican, Chinese, French, Italian etc. they sometimes eat less, sometimes more. I’ve never forced them to eat just because. My 11 year old for example, he will get an In N Out burger. Sometimes he finishes it quickly, and sometimes he”ll leave about a quarter of it left. He’s full, he’s full. I’ve always found that strange, making kids eat when they don’t want to.

I’m not a criminal or anything so I think not eating carrots didn’t Stunt me This is an important question! My family had a rule to finish your plate, probably stemming from not wanting to waste food. The people who raised me were raised by people who did not have enough, and I think that really colored their approach. These days we know that humans have hunger cues and satiety cues, and a lot of Americans especially have overridden these cues and have to work to tune back in to them. I didn’t realize I was overeating until I was well into my 20s, and it is still really hard for me to leave food on my plate (especially when dining out. At home I generally serve myself and it is not as much of an issue). One resource that helped me start to heal my relationship with food is Kids Eat In Color (I follow on Instagram but they have a website as well); I started following them a few years ago (a team made up of registered dietitians, a licensed clinical psychologist, weaning specialist, pediatric gastroenterologist, weight & eating disorders specialist, occupational therapist, pediatric feeding therapist, and child development specialist) just to reframe my own thinking and now that I have a child I am so grateful to them for the education!
