It’s disgusting. If they want to have more babies born there are so many ways of incentivising people. We also have free schooling including university level, about a year of semi-paid parental leave and decent job security. Unfortunately people keep voting for politicians doing their damndest to take a lot of the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this good stuff away. We went from pretty low wealth equality to now having one of the worst in the world. Do you think perhaps choices could be influenced by society? Maybe a society that wants to relegate women to a specific role? I think when people start basing important decisions on an approximation of what a mental model of society wants rather than what people ask for, we’re pretty far away from any reasonable sense of reality. People think way too highly of themselves if they think they understand any large groups of people, even the ones they belong to themselves
Tomorrow Needs You shirts: Express with Style
If a little girl wants to become a nurse, you don’t shit on her because there might be societal influence. If she wants to do computer science, you don’t shit on her because there might be societal influence. Encourage people to explore their passions and find what they are good at and vote for a system that enables it. From there things can develop into something even better. Trying to micromanage conflicts that don’t actually exist in most workplaces will only lead to confusion and animosity that will only slow down any form of meaningful progress But do you shit on a society that underpays nurses? Time was all the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this computer programmers were women, and it was an underpaid profession – as soon as men decided they wanted to do it, pay shot up and women were harassed out of the industry for a long time.
Nurses do essential work for which we have historically always deemed fit to pay doctors significant sums and nurses scant anything, when doctors were mostly men and nurses mostly women – even when nurses are doing work that a doctor used to perform. Nursing is 4 year degree. MD is an 8 year degree that is orders of magnitude more difficult the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this whole way. Also MDs do a minimum of 3-7 years of residency working 80 hrs/week AFTER the 8 years. It’s an entirely different field with drastically different levels of knowledge and specialization required. Kind of like comparing pilots to flight attendants or engineers to construction workers. Also worth noting that the majority of medical school, dental school, and vet school graduates have been women for almost a decade now. Nurses do essential work for which we have historically always deemed fit to pay doctors significant sums and nurses scant anything, when doctors were mostly men and nurses mostly women – even when nurses are doing work that a doctor used to perform.

Step by step to buy Tomorrow Needs You shirts
Here you gloss over the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this huge delta that exists under the umbrella term nurse. Avg 2022 pay for a RN is $82K after a 4 yr degree. Compare that to a DR. Whoops, you can’t bc the DR still has years more schooling required. My niece makes close to double that national average, can set her own schedule, after a 4 yr degree and specializing in cardiac care for 10 years. Conversely, her mother supervises CNAs who spend much of their day cleaning soiled sheets who make $15/hr bc they are unreliable and have relatively little education. As a child in a low income home, I saw my single mom (widow) suffer from pay discrimination. She was blatantly told that the men who had her same job deserved higher pay bc they were providing for families. So I’m all for equal pay for equal work, but let’s keep the comparisons honest. Conversely, her mother supervises CNAs who spend much of their day cleaning soiled sheets who make $15/hr bc they are unreliable and have relatively little education.
The CNA has not forgone 4 years of earning to do higher skilled work at a higher pay. Relatedly, not all CNAs could pass organic chem, but all nurses MUST pass it. You don’t need a four year degree to be an RN. Most of the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this nurses I worked under had two year degrees, and I doubt they took organic chemistry (because one was taking chemistry when she went to get her bachelor’s after having already been an RN for over a decade). Also, the classism is a bit much. Both nurses and nursing assistants are working class, blue collar workers. An RN can still be had through a trade school. It’s a two year degree. Does that two year degree realistically take four years due to prerequisites and degree requirements? Yes, but it’s still just an associates degree. Plenty of CNAs have college degrees from a university and chose to work as a CNA because it pays more than most entry level jobs and they can work full time three days a week. If those three days are Friday through Sunday, they can take care of their families during the week.
LPNs are nurses so prior poster is still trying to compare a 1 year certification to 8+ years to just reach residency. DNPs are nurses, too, and have 6-8 years of education. Of course not the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this same as MDs or DOs, in training or scope. But I think when prior poster said “nurses” they were probably referring to RNs. LPNs are being phased out. Hell, even the 2 year RNs are being pushed to get BSN. Is anything preventing women from getting into medicine or men from getting into nursing? When I was in university, our school of medicine had more females than males. Not sure what point you were trying to make. The point is jobs that are historically seen as women’s are undervalued. If men enter those professions in aignificant numbers, pay is likely to rise because then it becomes a “male” job, and therefore deserving of better pay.
There is absolutely zero evidence of this and significant evidence to the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this contrary. Physician pay has not decreased despite the majority of med school graduates being women. As more men have entered the teaching profession, teacher pay has not increased. Many studies have examined this topic ad naseum and when occupation and hours worked per week are controlled for, the pay gap disappears. That’s not true at all. Women just tend to take jobs that are less skilled and therefore more competitive. The more competitive a job is, the less the wages will be. When it goes from women dominant to men the pay increases and it becomes more prestigious when it goes the other way round the field drops in prestige and literally gets called a pseudo or soft science or not a hard field and the people in it get paid less . Nurses aren’t underpaid, holy crap. I hate that nurses are always brought up in these conversations, I’m sure there are better examples. I went back and forth with a nurse one time here and it ended with basically that nurses make less than software engineers.
It depends where you are. As I understand it, nurses in the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this US are very well paid. That’s not the case in all countries. In some areas nurses are paid pretty well. In areas of the south, I’ve seen ridiculous wages advertised for nurses, like 17-24/hr. Where are nurses underpaid? I have a friend who is a nurse and makes just shy of $8k/week. And I regularly see nursing jobs advertised at this rate. Even in podunk nowhere where I am originally from they’re averaging around $52/hr. That’s $222/hr. Your friend is lying to you. The maximum weekly wage I have ever seen was $6k for 48 hours in the middle of nowhere during the height of COVID. Nurses are not underpaid. They get paid the market rate. That’s how all wages work. They are not gender based lol I think the word “relegate” is unnecessarily condescending, like you think that anyone who doesn’t prioritise their career is naturally somehow of a lower rank. If its a specific person, yes rude. If its an entire group of people its a reflection of the societal standards that enforce the idea they have to be “lower rank” And yet in a society that doesn’t want to relegate women to a specific role, many of us still choose the lower paying but people facing jobs. Almost like it’s a choice.
I’m a childless woman working in electronics with only men. I put out more production of better quality than my male coworkers in the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this same role. My products never come back with issues and i produce twice as much as the next guy. Their products come back a lot, and I fix them when they inevitably can’t. But I’m still the last person consulted about anything. They always give the hardest jobs to the guys who can’t do it, which just ends up being extra work for me when i have to show them. The bosses see this play out again and again but never change and I can tell by the way they treat their wives that they don’t trust women for anything but cooking, and no amount of evidence will make them trust my work.
My point is a lot of the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this discrimination women face is from individuals in the workplace. Even as systemic issues fade, individuals still hold their prejudices. I don’t know if I experience a pay gap because we aren’t allowed to discuss our wages, but I definitely experience the inability to get ahead because I work with bosses who think women are stupid That term only refers to a gap in pay, not any specific reason for it being that way. It’s still a pay gap simply because it’s there. The term is misused by politicians, journalists, and thought leaders ALL the time. It’s constantly stated that women earn less for the same job. And when that argument fails it’s ‘nurses are underpaid because it’s primarily women’. It just goes on and on … On the whole, women do earn less than men for the same job over the course of a lifetime. This is a real problem, it’s just not the same problem people think it is. Paid family leave would solve a lot of it, since women routinely (more routinely than men) take months or years off work for children. But it’s not as simple as “that’s their choice”, either — society is benefited by children having stable care and rearing by a primary caregiver (or more than one), so it would be wise for society to alleviate the financial inequities that doing so causes.
How is it a financial inequity if two people are married to each other, and one of them decides to deprioritize work so they can focus more on the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this kids? It’s a household income, not a wife versus husband income. Legally the money is earned by both. They do earn less for the same job, on average. It’s just not 77 cents to the dollar. No matter how many confounding variables you account for, there’s always a single digit percent difference in favor of men across the whole economy. Is this a problem? Men and women aren’t the same. The have different lifespans, favorite movies, prefer different cars, have different tastes… We started from a point where women were objectively second class citizens. As a result, virtually 100% of wealth was owned by men, 100% of positions of power were occupied by men, so and and so forth. I hope you would agree that these are problematic ratios.
Over time, thanks in large part to the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this various waves of the women’s rights movement, these numbers have gotten closer to parity over time. But they’ve never quite gotten there, and here in 2024 we still see gender inequality in various measurements, including the wage/earnings gap. Why would we assume that now, rather than at any earlier point in this process, that the inequalities don’t matter or aren’t a problem? At what point is it appropriate to chalk inequalities up to “natural differences”? As a woman, I agree with you. I make a lot less than my husband because I choose to stay home the majority of the time. I don’t know why this is controversial Sure, it’s why it’s not surprising women are choosing to stay single, and people are choosing to not have kids. Cause these expectations aren’t supported and are even taken advantage of.
Not just raises, but starting salary, too. Plus there was an interesting study a few years back that I read that showed that men are more likely to apply for jobs they aren’t fully qualified for (with higher pay) whereas women mostly apply for jobs where they meet all of the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this criteria, keeping their pay lower even if they have the same skill set as the aforementioned man. Of course it’s frustrating when we’re raised on the myth that the economy is a meritocracy where the most qualified person gets the job and everyone is compensated fairly for the contributions they make to society – only for the truth to be that it pays more to be a narcissistic bullshit artist than to actually be competent.
My first job, I became a supervisor and after about 6 months found out all of the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this guys I was supervising made more than I did. Yep. There’s a reason for transparency with pay. Nothing necessarily sexist about it, but if you don’t ask, a company is happy to pay you as little as humanly possible This is the case currently with my supervisor. I make more than her. I’m a fairly specialized technologist with a valuable skill set; And I’ve been here longer. And I’ve met far more useless managers than technicians. Don’t get me wrong, a good manager is highly valuable. But most are bulshit useless fakers that have little clue about the business or activity. I don’t know your field but I’ve seen that happen to men who are managing senior technical folks. Also happens in some cases when variable pay is involved like Sales or Hospitality (tipping). The fact that you’ve been downvoted shows that a lot of people don’t have real world experience in the nuances of a valuable skill set. I have a Ph.D. in STEM with 20 years experience. My supervisor has a Bachelors with 8 years experience. They are great at herding us cats and managing the reports and budgets. But there is no expectation that I should be paid less. A manager, hired to manage the personal and finances at a medical clinic is not going to make as much money as the doctors working there. Even though the manager “Runs the place”
Exactly what I was gonna say. Sometimes this actually makes sense. Like a senior technical person may require higher salary due to their skill set, experience, and responsibilities vs a supervisor who while important is much more common and easy to find. At least from what I’ve found in my tech career so far, skillset might be a more determining factor. At less technical companies though, management does tend to earn more still though. I wish it was an exciting answer. I was a teenager. I asked for a raise and my manager gave me a 10 cent raise while hitting on me and implying I could get a better raise if I did better somehow I didn’t work there for much longer. You mentioned you were a teenager at the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this time. did the people you supervised have a valuable skill that you didn’t? So I recently got my degree at 36 and got my first professional/skilled job that isn’t on a farm or in a call centre, I was terrible at negotiating my wage too because it’s simply not something I’ve ever had to or even been in a position to do before, but I had a good friend encouraging me and I put myself in a strong position to negotiate from, here’s what I did:
I took the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this job originally through an agency with a barely above minimum wage salary because I was desperate for a job after 6 months of being unemployed, I was taking literally anything at that point, and the company I now work for has a strong track record of hiring on permanent contract after the 12 week agency contract. When I started I worked hard, I completed the 4 week training in 2 weeks and was on the yard with the other chemists quickly, within a week of that I was working solo. I rarely take breaks and regularly work late, this is something I enjoy and taking breaks just slows me down, this is a me thing and I don’t recommend everyone do it but it certainly helped show I have a better work ethic than most on site.
During the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this 12 week period I took on responsibility for specific tasks I knew needed completing but nobody else seemed interested in doing, I did those tasks to an excellent standard and always sought out other tasks for completion so as to limit my time spent idling, the standard of work and rate of completion of tasks meant that I very quickly became invaluable to the site. As I took on various roles my site manager introduced me proudly to various higher-ups in the company, I had site managers ask me if I would go to their site and do what I’m doing here at their sites (which I enthusiastically agreed to) and the regional director agree to pay me to do so, covering hotel and food costs. During that time I also didn’t stop applying for other roles, this is an important part of gaining a strong negotiating position, always have your linkedin profile set to “open to work” and your CV up to date. I interviewed at a number of companies within the same industry and was offered a job at a rival company with better pay, once I had that offer I then went directly to my site manager and told him I’d had the offer but wanted to give him first refusal on renegotiating my wages and a permanent contract, this was 8-9 weeks in.
Having made myself invaluable and proven I was more than capable my site manager made it clear he wanted to keep me, he immediately offered a permanent contract and wage negotiations began, all I had to do was go back and forth between the Tomorrow Needs You shirts moreover I will buy this two companies telling them what the other had counter offered and letting them fight each other for me. After a couple of weeks (and my site manager getting approval from the regional director) I secured a permanent contract with 6.5k pay rise, multiple training opportunities that come with further pay rises (and cost the company 6-7k to put me through, netting me an industry recognised qualification that allows me to run my own site) and actual career progression.
