There was a plan to destabalize and divide 7 countries in the Tombstone Shirt but in fact I love this ME Doing all that will assert US controls the ME politically and militarily and thus the energy market in the world and assure a lot of revenue for US companies. This is how empires usually think and behave since the times of the roman empire. The senate approved the invasion of Iraq by a vote of 77-23. I can’t imagine anything passing by that margin today, but that was about a year removed from 9/11 and the bloodlust in the country was insane. It didn’t matter that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, none of the hijackers were Iraqi, and there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden. Iraq was full of brown people and that’s all anyone cared about. What a shameful chapter in US history.

IMO Oil was always secondary Even the Oil thing is BS, or at least didn’t work out. Iraq sold extraction rights to the highest bidder and US companies did about as well as chinese ones. Yep. Riding the wake of 9/11, I think we were in national mourning and living in fear and thus very susceptible to the bullshit. Mind you I was 8 so I can’t decisively say that’s true. I just remember the atmosphere was darker after 9/11, and the weight affected everything. I was in my early 20’s during the buildup to the Iraq war. All the major media outlets were pushing the same narrative and publicity opposing the war made you an instant outcast. Both parties supported the war. Insults were made against the Germans and especially the French because they opposed the invasion. During my lifetime the US has invaded I don’t even know HOW many different counties under one pretext of another. Americans are some of the most propagandized people on earth and most of us smugly lap up every little bit of pro imperialist war propaganda with glee. The talking points about ‘sacredness’ of sovereignty are pretty obviously nothing but pro war propaganda. What confuses me about the whole situation is that knowing that the US and their allies are obviously capable of doing things like this, we still have zero empathy or understanding for the Russian “we don’t want US troops at our border” perspective?
