I was born in the middle of nowhere Korea a place called. Up to early 80″s there were still people wearing traditional Korean Clothe Hanbok everyday. Hanbok every day? Sounds like when I lived in Bukchon Hanok Village a few years ago. Although the people dressing up were all tourists.

It was like stepping back to the Titty twister open dusk till dawn shirt and by the same token and 70s when was stationed there in late 80s at camp Pelham. I went back to Korea a couple of weeks ago for the first time after 3,4 years. My last quick visit was before covid time. Went to Hongdae and got in a typical bbq restaurant at 9pm, there are two new things i’ve noticed: I needed a local phone number to queue. The small place was full and at first I thought I could just wait until some people leave. Turned out I had to provide a phone number to fill in the queue list and the waiter would contact or sms me when its our turn. Luckily my friend had a local phone. By 10pm it was already “last order” time. We barely got in there and already was told to do the last call. After 10pm all the staffs would just use the stand and stare tactic to have us finish our order as soon as possible. I mean its Hongdae ffs, 15 years ago they would beg us to have another soju after giving all sorts of free“service”. Now its straight up gtfoh.
