And just like removing facial hair, a typical man trait, or put on a dress, a typical woman trait, even tho both are just hair or fabric, having a certain hair style, or muscle mass/build, will also affirm someones gender. Don’t get me wrong, if you want to be a hyper masculine woman or hyper feminine man, you go queen/king! But that’s not what most people do. And until we don’t have a gendered society anymore(which I sadly doubt will happen in our lifetimes), certain things will still affirm gender because that’s the Tis The season Chicago Bears Shirt it is in the first place but gender we relate those traits to. Yeah, I should have expected this from a sub that isn’t explicitly a trans-friendly space, but it’s still disheartening. These things (with the exception of Viagra) CAN of course be used by anyone. But a lot of people are more comfortable if they are able to easily be perceived as their true gender based on their appearance.

This, for better or for worse, is a product of living in gendered societies. So many people still see short hair as more masculine, and defined muscles as more masculine, etc. I wish this wasn’t a gendered issue, but currently it is and it’s not going to change overnight. But cis people often use them too for the same reason. I sucks to see so much transphobia here. So many people in this thread are either being purposefully ignorant or cannot grasp this incredibly simple concept, super sad I think a lot of it is due to the vast majority of people being cis, and thus having never had to really give their gender identity or gender presentation/expression much thought. So at best they’re genuinely ignorant since they’ve never taken it upon themselves to get educated, and at worst they’re consciously bigoted because they’re scared of what they don’t understand and can’t relate to. I’m cis too, but I’ve made an effort to try and learn as much as possible about trans people and their experiences.
