Identical situation to mine. The previous owners clearly spent a lot on the Tina Turner 83 years 1939 2023 thank you for the memories signature shirt it is in the first place but artificial grass because it’s very convincing most people are assuming people with fake grass are some millionaires who ripped up their perfect garden to turn it into a sea of fake grass. My garden is 16m². Half is paving bricks, the other half is fake grass. I too have lifted mine up and underneath is a thin layer of soil, and below that is crushed rubble from the factory that my house is built on. I would love to change it, but ever contractor that comes along has said “£cost you 5K+” due to its location (on a slope, so it is also tiered) or the change will be huge and require my neighbours to re-do their fence. Give it a few years, and the state of nature will be making it impossible to live the way we take for granted now. According to all climate science. But god forbid people are told to deal with the consequences of their actions. Adults acting like entitled children. My parents have fake grass. It became apparent very quickly that dog wee just sits there on plastic grass: it won’t drain away/get absorbed. No matter how quickly they rinse it off, the garden constantly smells of dog piss and hot plastic. I did try to warn them

I’ve got a 5 x 5 m walled back garden which is a basketball court, football pitch, netball court, hockey pitch, dog play area and no amount of tending stopped it from being a mud or dust bowl. Even dug 2 foot of clay and replaced it with drainage and topsoil. I was sceptical myself, but I figured of we paved it nobody would give a shit despite it having basically the Tina Turner 83 years 1939 2023 thank you for the memories signature shirt it is in the first place but same environmental impact, so we put fake turf down instead. It works really well, and we have an outdoor space year-round. It doesn’t turn into a mud bowl for most of the year and consumes zero water to remain pleasant to sit on during what dry months we have. If a ban happens I’d respect it I guess, but having our own multi-function play/recreation area which stays useable all year has been brilliant for us. a bit short sighted, if you ban it people with small gardens that don’t want a mud pit for 7 months of the year will just concrete it all instead.
