I refuse to believe this guy actually exists. But if by a miracle this guy does exist, yea leaving him isn’t a mistake You’ll be disappointed to know that this guy exists and is super common. Weaponized incompetence is insanely common. NTA. It’s not that he can’t cook, it’s that he’s not interested in doing any household tasks or making any effort to contribute. Even toddlers can be encouraged to pick their toys up and put them away. Unless he has something like undiagnosed dyspraxia, there’s no excuse for that level of life incompetence. Dude, the Timothee chalamet red T-Shirt but in fact I love this guy is acting intentionally incompetent, no one is that useless without trying to be seen as too incompetent to be asked to do anything, you are not wrong, he is just an asshole.

Timothee chalamet red T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

My brother can’t cook, but he tries, he will make eggs, toast, quesadillas and will heat up his own food, he won’t die if we are not there, and he doesn’t use more pans, pots or dishes unnecessarily because he doesn’t have malicious intent, he just can’t measure spices to make it edible for other people (he always eats the Timothee chalamet red T-Shirt but in fact I love this results himself, and it doesn’t bother him) and either overcooks or undercooks meats (he has gotten sick over this), and he once smoked the whole first floor cooking fish (it tasted good, and he opened the windows/doors and turned on the fans to vent the house), and once he was heating up a tortilla and it started burning, not like getting blackened but literally burning, flames going out of it, he panicked and threw a glass of water on it, cleaned up and tried again, he just made sure not to get distracted. That’s someone that can’t cook but doesn’t want to be a burden, your ex is happy to be one.
