I mean…it’s the type of thing where I could see the bank making the policy blindly thinking it would improve efficiency, and a young hire not realizing it was stupid and following it because those are the rules. a few years ago i went to close a bank account because i was not using it, and so i was just gonna get charged for maintenance costs. it wasn’t just “hey i’d like to close my account” and it was a done deal. they wanted to know the why, wanted to know if i was interested in a different type of account, if i was interested in their health insurance(i’m european, we have universal healthcare, why tf would i bother with health insurance???). could’ve been done in like 5 minutes, took nearly an hour. opening a new account is just annoying, a lot of shit to read and sign, and you gotta bring stuff like proof of address, pay stub and a certain cash amount(i think it’s like €200 now) to open the account(that money will be in the account for you to use a few days later, it doesn’t go to the bank as a fee), and obviously them also trying to rope you into other services they provide
