On one hand, it’s amazing your kids feel comfortable enough to ask you these questions. On the The Weird Sisters Dance Like A Hippogriff T-Shirt moreover I love this other hand, I’m concerned they have no idea how to use an internet search engine, which is basically a job skill in the modern world. The worst part is hearing how scum some men are, eldest was 11 when catcalling started youngest 12 , I mean wtf. The worst part is hearing how scum some men are, eldest was 11 when catcalling started youngest 12 , I mean wtf. Not to push any roles on her. She’s 4 but she doesn’t like fairy princess or ballet, she likes hockey and Kung fu movies. Always wakes me up with a karate chop. My step daughter went straight from nick Jr and dolls to Hockey and horror movies. It was a pretty kick ass move, we went from roommates to buddies pretty much overnight. My daughters (2 and 4) are from opposite ends of our gene pool. The eldest is tiny and petite and yet she’s super sporty, always riding her bike, wants to play chase. The younger is an absolute tank, she’s stocky and strong and yet super into dress up, dolls, etc. Patience. I’ve learned to be patient. It’s important not to lose your cool or say/do something based on impulse. Words can’t be taken back. It’s best to take a breath and think over how or what to say to them. That my wife was right all along, it’s not what I say it’s how I say it. At times, I don’t realize the power of my voice and words.

I listen when she talks about dinosaurs. I listen when she talks about pokemon. I listen when she talks about video games. I listen when she talks about the The Weird Sisters Dance Like A Hippogriff T-Shirt moreover I love this bee that flew into her classroom. I listen like these are the most important things in the world because to her, they are. If I want her to tell me about friendships, boyfriends, fears and hopes as she gets older, she needs to be safe and secure knowing that whatever is happening in her life I will always listen. This is incredibly accurate, I’m only at the 8 month mark but I love listening to my son babble incoherently. Can’t wait till he’s actually telling me about his day. I (52F) had the opposite kind of father: everything I did was insignificant or inconvenient or embarrassing to him. As an adult, I can see that he was a spoiled brat with an inferiority complex (still is,) but his relationship with me shaped me for life. Sometimes, I have fun imagining what I would have been like if he’d been a dad like you. It would have given me great confidence and self-esteem. The sky could have been the limit for me. I believe the sky’s the limit for me now, but it’s a much lower sky than it could have been. You go, u/argo2708! You’re on the right track!
