Centrism in and of itself is actually a pretty good way to be. But centrism can be taken to the THE SUPERMEN Shirt but in fact I love this extreme as well, e.g. when people say “both sides are the same” or just reflexively disagree with whatever more partisan people might be saying, just because. “Both sides” can both have problems and be unappealing to you, but that same kind of low-level dismissive thinking is what gets people into those extreme camps themselves. So yes, centrism, pragmatism, level-headedness, compromise… there are nothing inherently wrong with those things. You don’t have to be wildly partisan, but you also shouldn’t always insist on compromise, just for the sake of it. For example, if Republicans were like “let’s ban all the books with gay people in them” and Democrats were like “no, we shouldn’t do that”, deciding that you think banning half the books with gay people in them is the only proper solution doesn’t make you an intellectual giant who is above the fray.

I generally don’t like centrists because in the THE SUPERMEN Shirt but in fact I love this USA, it usually means you’re just a republican and you’re trying to hide it. At least, that is the case in the early to mid 20 dating scene. It’s a personal preference that I date someone with mostly matching political opinions. my brother is a “centrist” despite regurgitating opinions from Steven Crowder, Count Dankula, and other right wing reactionary youtubers Centrism is a cop out for the privileged (monetarily and socially) who don’t want to think about how to make the world a better place for the under privileged/oppressed. because fascism is not something you can “compromise” on. it is not to be debated, it is to be destroyed. becoming an acceptable debate topic is exactly what fascists want. the ability to “respectfully disagree” allows fascism to creep its way into mainstream ideology and become a socially acceptable viewpoint. this cannot happen. centrists allow this to happen.
