I never really thought about this until high school. All I really wanted was a stable home life but that didn’t happen. For reference, I’m GenX. I grew up wanting to be a pilot. In high school I wanted to become a lawyer. College I was doing business admin but never graduated. I was a warehouseman for many years and the pay was great at my first warehouse job. Now I work in an office for a regional administration. A fireman. I didn’t fulfill my dream, but my son did. Going on 5 years now with Toronto Fire. Best decision he ever made, he says. Yup, I believe him. They figured out shortly after that I was suffering from depression. 47 years later and, especially after the last year that culminated in my friend of 34 years death, I hope he gets his wish sooner than later. I wanted to be a firefighter but ended up in IT mostly doing what we call firefighting issues as we can’t seem to keep on top of issues to ever fix the root causes. I find it kinda humorous, at least. I wanted to work in an office. Not the only thing I wanted to be when I grew up but of the things i wanted it’s the one that happened. Fighter pilot. Then I grew to be 6’8 and won’t fit comfortably in a CF-18. Ultimately pursued construction estimating and entrepreneurship, along with a private pilots license

But I quit being a flight attendant when I had Amy. My brother was a radio disc jockey so I wanted to be in radio. A talk radio host actually. But as I got older I wanted to be a cop. At the time standing 5’5″ my father urged me not to bother. It’s OK they get no respect now. I became a truck driver then inside at my work, industrial supply. 30 years later and now in senior management.
