In Germany we have “jemandem einen Bärendienst erweisen“, roughly translated to provide someone a bear‘s service“. I found out that it redirects to a centuries old tale by Jean de la Fontaine, in which a pet bear accidentally kills his owner when trying to get him rid of a bee that sits on the The Overlook Bunch Shirt also I will do this owner’s face. Man, I studied Russian for a year like 8 years ago and I can remember some basic shit (gde apteka? lol) but the most annoying part is I can still “read” Cyrillic perfectly fine… I just have NO idea what any of it means 😀 In Czech, “medvedi sluzba” is exactly that: “bear help/service”. Used when someone is helping someone else, but it ends up getting more compicated/brings more problems down the road/doesn’t actually help.

Then we have “ti amo”, and you only use it for your partner when you feel you’re really in love with them. It seems like most languages distinguish more precisely between familial/friendship love and romantic love, to the point that it’s actually very weird English doesn’t have that
