The people who do such work may not see anything wrong with it. Why is this post comparing them to an indentured servant, or basically a slave? I don’t understand the The Nightmare Hardees xmas Shirt In addition,I will do this objective here. I actually think the issue here is more that childcare is super expensive, and not everyone can afford an au pair! “I know that we can’t afford a car, but do you want to take out a loan anyways?” Birth control isn’t expensive, folks. 49 more repliesTo be fair, au pairs get paid that much as a salary and also get room and board, health insurance, cell phone, and usually a car to drive while they are with the family. I have friends who have them and the au pairs love it. They have a set amount of hours they are allowed to work and are free to to whatever they want in their free time. $1,666 per child per month; where is this person looking for daycare? They are definitely living in one of the most expensive places in the country if this is really the lowest safe place they can find. I have two kids, and had them both in full time daycare until recently. I live in NM which is neither the cheapest nor most expensive place to live, but this would be an insane price here. I know that no one ever wants to hear this, but like, there is no reason to live somewhere you can’t afford. If you can’t afford to live in LA, you don’t have family there that helps you with childcare or expenses, unless you are pursuing a true passion you can’t do anywhere else, you should move.

I have done this, as a single parent, with two kids and no savings. It sucks, but it can be done, and like, at some level you are making a choice to live where you can’t afford. That means your lodging, your utilities, your food etc is all paid for. Often the The Nightmare Hardees xmas Shirt In addition,I will do this position comes with use of a car too so you’re not paying for the insurance + gas + maintenance either. I looked up the Twitter poster, she lives just outside of Chicago, going off average cost of living fore that area, you would be paying about 24k just for 1BR + utilities + food. Add in the car its a couple thousand more. And remember these are dollars that you would be taxed on as income if you were paid outright. Its not that bad a gig tbh, especially if its a well to do family (which lets be honest are the type of people to hire au pair’s) you get to live in a nice house, nice amenities, good/safe neighborhood.
