I spent four years in Luxembourg. One of our favorite restaurants was French and their specialty was Cherval or horse. Anyway, haven’t eaten horse, have no issue with. Also, I owned a horse and love animals. I’m from Quebec (French Canada) and I haven’t heard of anyone having horse meat as staple in their diet and it’s certainly not considered a delicacy here.

But even my family was like “I would not eat that if given the offer” ? We eat a lot of horse here in Catania, Sicily. I’m an American expat and grew up with horses and I dig on a horse panino every couple of weeks. Don’t get why people are fine with other meat tartare but not horse. It sounds like they weren’t fooled, they were told it was horse and that’s why they were offended. It’s not like horse meat hasn’t had a history in food around most of the world. It’s fizzled out in Europe over the last few years. Freedom of movement for goods means a meat product can be sold in any EU countries without needing any different packaging or advertising. As most nations don’t like horse meat, the ones that traditionally ate it stopped selling it, so all nations customers could be comfortable there was nothing ‘unsavoury’ in any sausages, pies etc.
