Yesterday we were learning about Andrew Jackson and the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but 1824 election and how the House had to decide the winner. Today we were learning about the 1828 election and the first question was who were the candidates. I had kids shouting out things like the House of Representatives! Or the electoral! Or inflation! I’m like people, read the question, you’re just shouting out things you learned before. I am a student teacher (2020 high school grad) and it has really shaken me to my core about how insanely behind the kids are now. Now, my professors and mentors have reminded me that I am teaching a mix of special ed and on-level classes while I took almost exclusively honors/AP/college classes when I was the same age as my students. However, I took a handful of “on level” elective courses, and it never seemed this bad. I have students in “on-level” that cannot read or even spell. They will misspell words that are in the question they are answering. Either they cannot or they refuse to use the words in the question to spell. Furthermore, I have juniors that are submitting assignments telling me Pearl Harbor happened in Japan and then labelling the attack in China. Ever since starting college for education, I (and my cohort) have been nervous about like what is like “on the other side” since our school experience was “pre-covid” minus the last couple of months of our senior years. I think you are spot on about the gap between honors and on-level widening.

The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt: Perfect for Fans

Sometimes when I grade papers, I just get extremely sad that this is the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but future of our country. My post-grad teacher friends do tell me that their schools are better and that it isn’t awful (my experience is in a Title 1). Their schools also have a no phone policy that is enforced. My admin don’t seem to care much for consequences for behavior unless a student is injured or school property is damaged. It’s almost like we’ve got a society that’s working parents to the bone just to survive. By the time parents get home with their kids it’s time for a meal and a shower then off to bed. When the fuck are parents even supposed to get involved these days, cause I’m just starting out and it scares me. I get like 2-3 hours a night max with my kids that I gotta get dinner, a bath and cleaning done. We read a book or 2 every night, but damn there’s no time. Fuck these jobs, I just wanna be with my kids.
Oh! The example thing! Yes! I teach math and give them guided notes that explain each step and then work several examples. When they get to the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but problems, they can not follow the examples and work the problems. I kid you not, I have had 8th graders say but the numbers are different! I just can’t believe how helpless they are. Coming from a K-6 perspective, there’s lots to be said about the parent side of things and people more qualified than me have spoken on the lack of support from the home. But I want to add in that I don’t think the curriculum we’re forced to teach through state standards is developmentally appropriate and it’s causing students to be severely lacking in foundational skills. Phonics & fluency have taken a severe step back in favor of comprehension and to a smaller degree, vocabulary. Play-based learning has been taken out of Kindergarten, and honestly? I think that has really hurt students’ ability to solve problems critically. Recess is really short, writing and science is damn near cut from every grade until they get to fourth (since they don’t get tested on those subjects til the fourth).

Tiktok, more specifically the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but “reel” or short video endless scroll format, is the absolute worst single invention in the past 10 years. As for the illiteracy, it’s because schools literally stopped teaching kids how to read. They taught them to memorize words, and look at pictures to figure out what a word is. No phonics, no sounding out. And this went on for decades! Sight words…it’s just what it sounds like, knowing a word on sight and that is NOT reading. Sold a Story is an excellent podcast that discusses how we got to a place where we don’t teach kids to read and what should be done now that they’re illiterate. Also, activist and maker of the documentary “right to read” Kareem Weaver has robust information on his website. We were lining up for a fire drill the other day and I told the kids to walk all the way to the fence, a fourth grader turns around and asks “what’s a fence?”
Guys, if you have a home visiting program through your school district for ages birth-5, please recommend it to the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but parents of your students. I work for this type of program and we go through a lot of the things you guys are mentioning, including social-emotional development. Getting parents on board with learning early, teaching them how to help their child learn, and how to communicate with teachers is the only way we can combat this. If you’re not sure your district has this program ask around. Well No Child Left Behind can take some of the blame. Sure, not having posy puberty (high school aged) kids with pre puberty kids in middle school is not a good idea. It still does a lot of harm. For instance, I hear that the last time I passed math was 6th grade, and they are proud of it.
As someone who is going into teaching for history this makes me sad. How can our country be so inept in such a vital field for future success. I teach 7-12 Learning Support so I know and expect they’re grade levels behind but I have 7th graders who can’t read KDG sight words. I’m teaching beginning phonics and I struggle to find the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but time. Least no one is bitching about my test scores. This is my 18th year in the 7-12 American grades. They definitely have less ability than they used to. Almost none of them capitalize or punctuate correctly. As OP said, their computer skills and research stamina are low to non-existent. I think back the work involved with a card catalogue or microfiche and these kids won’t scroll to the third or fourth Google result.
I work in an elementary school and it breaks my heart the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but number of significantly behind students who don’t qualify for an IEP. There are lots of exclusionary factors, attendance being one of them. In order to qualify for an IEP, the student must have evidence of a learning disability that is impacting their academic performance. Students who are chronically tardy and absent, or who simply don’t have a good support network at home, fall behind but are unable to qualify for an IEP. These days everyone gets promoted regardless of academic performance, so these kids just get further and further behind each year. Until schools return to truth in grading and actually holding students accountable for knowledge of the content, things will only continue to get worse. This problem started happening before the pandemic, and Covid only exacerbated the problem.
I had to explain to my eighth graders which hand was their right hand a week ago. I almost walked out that day. I think it’s easy to blame our fear of “failing.” I’d love to see a shift in mindset though, where we simply hold students accountable to some really fair and reasonable benchmarks in order to pass to the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but next grade. division (single digits) — dividing and multiplying by 1 really is confusing to them. and simplifying fractions is really rough. 10. many don’t know that north south east and west exist let alone how to tell which direction is which on a map. 12. there are 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day. and lengths of sunlight time changes based on the time of the year 13. fahrenheit and celsius aren’t measures of “fire hot” and “cold” and you can have warm and cold temperatures on either scale. a kid asks me how it was possible to have 100 degrees of cold. took me a WHILE to parse that question. 14. california is not another country. we are in arizona. one kid doesn’t have a passport so he can’t go to california. womp womp, i guess. Chiming in as a college tutor, I was just asked by a freshman if we go around the sun or if it goes around the Earth. Idk how I managed to keep a straight face
We just went to an all day PD the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but other day and just like any other PD, I can’t get myself to buy into any of what they’re selling. I mean they’re not bad strategies but they’re strategies that require time, commitment, and a student body that gives a shit. None of these PD stuff means a lick when students are so far behind, don’t give a damn, or can’t behave like their age. So excuse me when I’m told the barrier to student success is not enough SCAFFOLDING. No. The barrier to student success are students, lack of parenting, and a culture continually pushes the importance of superficial things. I’ll allow for all of the spot crazy things that kids are unprepared for in high school. You will always have outliers in class that even their peers gawk at for what they don’t know. What gets me more is the utter apathy and open disdain to try that a decent number of kids exhibit. No resilience to failure, no appetite to struggle with a hard assignment or question. No ability to critically think or troubleshoot. Just total non thinkers. When kids realize after they do nothing for an entire school year that they still stay with their friends and go to the next year it teaches them that there are no stakes, and that effort is not mandatory. It doesn’t benefit the kids to move them along, it just placates parents and infuriates teachers. The kids need real responsibility, and as much as we can try to hold their hand in class eventually you need to show you can succeed on your own. I thought my diploma didn’t mean much when I graduated but it means even less now.
The ugly truth is NCLB, standardized testing, and tying funding to all the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but bullshit data points has ruined education in the U.S. A fun byproduct is societal push and acceptance of parents as friends who believe they have no control or recourse over their own children. I was going through some old papers at my parents house over the weekend. My mom keeps all of our stuff including old homework assignments lol. I just have to say that I was shocked reading some of my papers from second grade because my handwriting and general writing skill were exponentially better than the students I teach now who are the same age and older. Disagree on research skills. In two hours they can find the answers to the Chem homework, which would have taken them 20 minutes to work.
And yet, in my state the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but standardized tests are still ludicrously hard. Like, honors level material and I’m supposed to get them to pass. How??? Districts are all about “rigor” and “high expectations” but we can’t get kids to learn to read. My 5th graders are tested on Renaissance artists(new ELA curriculum) but can’t read at a 2nd grade level. It’s so ridiculous. We’re supposed to make the curriculum accessible to everyone. How?!? It’s rather scary to learn that my severely autistic kid with a learning disability is actually doing significantly better than the general population you’re describing. I’m not even that great of a parent, I’d consider myself low-average, but all of my son’s teachers love me because I do basic things like get him on the bus on time and follow through with discipline at home. Is that really exceptional these days? It’s below basic from my perspective. I’m an elementary music teacher, so some of the words that I teach, I expect errors. Music uses a lot of Italian words, so I grade assignments gently. However, the words students ask for help on are not “forte”, “piano”, “crescendo”, and so on… I had a third grader ask me how to spell “help”. Several fifth graders gave me “konsrt revew” instead of “concert review”. And the handwriting is practically illegible, even in fifth graders. As a first year teacher, it made me so sad. I remember handwriting being a grade when I was a kid. I remember spelling tests each week on vocab words. I don’t know if times have changed or what. I hope it can get better.
As a parent with 2 young kids – failing has to be a thing again. What is all this butterfly “can’t fail a kid” bullshit that’s somehow made its way into the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but system. On top of that school has seemingly completely stopped disciplining kids which is the worst idea. Parents can’t take on that burden and try to discipline their kid for something they did 7 hours ago. this was my experience going through school. gen z born in 2002. it’s been like this for 10-15 years if not longer since this is how I remember my schooling experience. kids around me couldn’t read the time on a clock in highschool. we didn’t learn well and there isn’t enough time or resources for the educators to focus on an individual and help them. this country would rather fund wars across the globe then invest in educating it’s citizens. dumb citizens are easier to control. I learned a lot online, manually. I often wonder where my old classmates are today
Nobody wants to piss off the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but parents, nobody wants to piss off the kids, nobody cares about pissing off the teachers or the bus drivers or the aides and the Admins piss on it all. And the public is like why are my tax dollars going to all this piss?!?? This is the result of no child left behind. School districts will not allow teachers to fail kids. Entire program has been watered down. I was subbing for a combined 4th/5th grade class and handed out a two-sided assignment. The second side only bled over to about half a page. Many students didn’t bother to check for both sides and only handed me one side completed before I told them there was more. Of those kids, many only completed the backside, not realizing there was a front.
They thought I handed them an assignment with no title, date, or space for a name that had numbered questions starting at number 5, and no alarms in their heads told them there might be another side to it. We’re in an ebb and flow period not to dissimilar to the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but 1920s. Right now what we’re seeing is the psychological and socioemotional effects of a global pandemic and isolation for 2.5 years. A lot of these kids probably learned these things, but lost them in the 2.5 years where they just didn’t have much of an education, like how I imagine most of the normal working population probably couldn’t solve for a slope at the moment if I asked them (Hell I barely can). Kind of like that Are you smarter than a fifth grader show. We’re kind of going through that. There’s a reason they call that generation “lost” in the 20s. They basically got fucked by world wars, pandemics and mass starvation. It took another war and time before their kids wisened up and built the highways.
We likely will be seeing these effects to be honest for a hot minute. Third graders can probably catch up but we likely wont see a rebound until the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but current 4th graders on are through and out to God knows where. So what? 8 years? It’s gonna suck for Alpha like it sucked for Gen X and other middle generations, but we’ll probably see a boon and uptick then. Look at Oregon, dropping all graduation requirements in the name of “equity”. Now there’s no basic reading, writing and math skills required for students to graduate with a high school diploma. What’s the actual fucking point of it at all now? They’re just churning out useless, ill-equipped morons into society just to save from offending anyone by requiring them to fulfil the basic requirements of being a functioning member of the community.
1,120 more repliesThis is what I’m working with after a cleanse and moisturizer/lip gloss (not a lipstick lover). I’m a novice and I’m due for a lot of new products – including concealer/foundation/contour/blush. What should I be aiming for? I’ve had a friend make comments about my The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but skin texture and I question if I should be using a pore putty or concealer to help minimize pore size around my mouth. I’ve got combination skin in a typical t pattern. I’m comfortable heading to either a drugstore, MAC or Sephora to grab any suggestions you have product wise. If you have any feminizing tips I’d love to hear your thoughts as well. Thanks for your time!!Respectfully you’re fuckin gorgeous & look great even without makeup. But if you’re looking for recs, I’d say just a good base to emphasize your natural glow
OP, I think subtle and soft makeup looks will suit you best. Some very light contouring, blush, and mascara. Your brows are gorgeous, you could brush them out a little but I wouldn’t go heavy on trying to fill them. As for skin, maybe Elf putty primer and a very light foundation? I wouldn’t go any heavier than a CC cream honestly, your skin is so nice. I don’t even think she needs anything on the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but skin besides a good moisturizer with SPF. Her skin is what I’m attempting to get to! Seriously OP you are SO gorgeous! I would be emphasizing those beautiful eyes with some bronze shimmer shadow and just a smidge of brown eyeliner – MAC Teddy eye kohl would make those beauties pop! You’re very pretty already, I dont think you need a ton of product. Find a bb cream to start with, a nice peachy Blush and get your brows shaped and use a light brown to add some definition. I would start with drugstore brands just to find what works for you personally, no point wasting funds on stuff you’re not sure you’re gonna like. Experimentation is most of the fun with makeup and finding what suits you.
Thanks. That’s a nice compliment. A second suggestion for a bb cream and I love the The Detroit Tigers MLB Have Signed RHP Jos Urquidy To A One-year Contract For The 2025 Season shirt it is in the first place but idea of peachy blush for a little pop of colour We have similar complexion and I really like the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush in Incandescent Electra – it’s a nice cool peach! This is great advice! Maybe some mascara to really make your eyes pop. But, really, you are absolutely naturally gorgeous!! I think we have a few angry people lurking, don’t pay the downvotes any mind OP. You are gorgeous and I’m jealous of your bone structure! Good luck in all your beauty endeavors! I never pay attention to them. People are gonna hate me for existing and that’s a them problem. Thanks for the reassurance No product advice I’m afraid, but just wanted to say I think you look beautiful! You have lovely features, glowy skin, and your hair looks thick, wavy and really suits you that length. I hope you find products that suit you! Your skin is wonderful and glowy! I really don’t see any texture, at least in this picture. I don´t feel you need a lot of product here. Maybe some bbcream/skin tint if you want a bit of coverage. I love Loreal’s magic bbcream, it is very light on the skin! I don´t know how familiar you are with makeup in general, but I would start with drugstore brands until you figure out what kind of things you enjoy.
