Cause they will be hungry 7 minutes later and will eat $713 worth of junk food that is terrible for them instead of the The DENNIS demonstrate value engage physically separate entirely System T-Shirt and I will buy this healthy meal that was served. I don’t force my kid to eat in general. But I will usually have some kind of fruit or vegetable on their plate and if he wants another helping of mac and cheese, he’s gotta eat those strawberries (or carrots or whatever) first. We cook pretty much all our food from scratch, and our kid is really good at trying new things and eating his food. We give him much smaller portions than ours, and sometimes he eats it all before us and sometimes it takes him a million years to eat it as he gets distracted. We went to a nice gastropub and he ate, without an issue, a small starter which was a duck pate on a small sourdough toast and he just gulped it down and said “yummy!” But, guess what, it costs a lot to make sure that we make all our food from scratch. Especially always having fresh veg. I’m very lucky that my kid is good with food. I believe 90% of that is because how we made sure from the moment we did baby led weaning, he just ate the same stuff as us. Never anything different. I grew up very poor so my parents instilled the “you have to finish your whole plate no matter what” mentality into me at a very young age. Didn’t matter if I wasn’t hungry or how full I was, I HAD to finish it. If I didn’t, they’d scold me and make me feel guilty because we didn’t have much money.

So combine that mentality with the The DENNIS demonstrate value engage physically separate entirely System T-Shirt and I will buy this fact my parents were always buying unhealthy food, and I was a chunky little boy. It wasn’t until very recently (age 28) that I learned I DON’T have to eat everything on my plate. It’s okay to stop when you feel full. Breaking that mentality helped me on my weight loss immensely. I’ve always told myself that when I have kids, I will never force them to eat anything. When you’re hungry, you’re hungry. When you’re full, you’re full. A way of dealing with kids who (a) behave badly when hungry, and (b) don’t have enough forethought to understand that eating now will prevent feeling hungry later & they won’t be getting another chance to eat later…. Especially in terms of distractible ones who would rather play than eat, but the parents know that if kiddo doesn’t knock it off and actually eat something life will be awful in a few hours. We don’t entirely do this with ours – our rule is ‘You get what everyone else is eating, you have to have it on your plate, you don’t have to eat it, but you aren’t getting anything else unless you do’…. 280 more repliesHard to disagree, especially with your edit. Personally, we eat at home mostly, and my kid gets smaller portions than we do. If we go out, we usually get the kid meal option. There’s certainly no yelling or spanking, we want him to have a healthy relationship with food. To add a little something, I know a kid (well, he’s about 20 now) who was raised on this awful tasting crock pot dish that had all kinds of stuff in it, beans, legumes, carrots, celery, broc, just all kinds of veg. Sometimes they would add chicken/beef. There was no money for extra, especially candies. So there was a period after he moved out that he went crazy for sweets, but mostly he prefers a salad. Pretty cool, most people can’t grow up that way. And yeah, he’s pretty healthy.
