I teach kids who, at 12 and 13, have already stated they don’t want kids. No one in power wants to address the systemic issues that make raising kids so difficult because these systemic pressures keep working age people desperate enough to not rock the boat. Then they run out of working age people and get mad at them for not having kids in an environment they (the people at the top with the money and power) don’t want to try and change. It’s all related. But I think financial security, or rather, the immediate expectations of what the typical young person thinks is required for marriage is the problem. People are marrying. Later. People are having a child. At an older age. That is much more likely to lead to couples having omly one child. The number of people marrying in their 20s is very very rare.

We need to take into consideration that our incomes are likely to go up as our careers progress. Going with the flow and taking things as they come are okay.
