This memoir is really original in subject and structure, but can you tell me about the The Cubs Legends 1876 2021 Thank You For The Memories Signature Shirt but in fact I love this writers who influenced you? When I was starting to think about these pieces I had been writing as something I might put into the world, I read Toni Morrison’s essay “Rootedness: The Ancestor as Foundation,” in which she writes about how Black literature has an oral quality, which resonated with me. A lot of my research focused on the ancient culture of Ashanti storytelling; I wanted to participate in that oral tradition. In Morrison’s writing, there’s often a kind of chorus of community. I was thinking about my ancestors and the history of my ancestors and historical figures as that chorus. She also says in this essay that these ancestors are not just parents; they’re timeless people whose relationships to different characters are sometimes benevolent—they’re protective, they have a certain wisdom—but not always. They’re not perfect. That kind of complication is what I wanted to include in my writing. And I wanted to implicate myself as much, if not more.
