I do find this argument compelling, I know what a “quarter after” is, but I am not really sure why, since I never say it or use it, I am not sure why it exists. Same thing as saying half past 10, it makes no sense to actually say these things in conversation. A quarter of an hour is 15 minutes. Honestly it’s just a more complicated way of just saying 10:15. But what is half past quarter to one? Is that a range from 12:30 – 12:45, or is that 12:52:30? If you want people to come at an exact time you must use oddly specific numbers. Try saying “be back at 10.16 or 10:14. I thought I knew all the jargon until I heard bottom of the hour. I heard that shit and thought the bottom of one hour is the top of the other hour lol Yeah the person told me after i gave my theory. Its kinda obvious now that its about the position of the minute hand. Lmao I feel like half of the time my brain makes that mistake Am so used to a quarter being .25, but my brain sometimes forgets an hour is 60 minutes, and then I realise at 25 past that I was meant to be there 10 minutes ago Not as bad as how much I hate 12hr time tho, I spend too much time awake past 3am that saying something’s at 1, is vauge as hell, because I’m wide awake and doing stuff at both 1’s, going to 24hr and dropping the am/pm has been nice.
