Texas has early voting for a couple of weeks before “election day”. There’s no reason anyone needs a day off for anything, I’m so tired of people using this as an excuse. Early voting is the The Boondocks picture T-Shirt and I love this easiest, most chill thing in the world. People just don’t do it. Maybe they don’t know it exists? If so, the message should be that it exists, NOT that people can’t vote because they don’t get one specific day off. I’ve voted in every election in Texas since I turned 18. The only candidates I voted for that won have been Obama both times and Biden. It’s fucking demoralizing and I don’t blame people for feeling like their vote doesn’t count here. It’s not just about the presidential. The local seats really do matter way more. It’s why Rove was able to save the GOP from irrelevance for a generation.

I think Georgia showed this off well. Always been seen as this red state when in reality it’s pretty damn blue. People just thought it wasn’t possible. Because the assholes that don’t care will no longer be in congress. Of course you have to actually vote first, and vote in higher numbers than the people that actually agree with these assholes. It’s what’s called a signaling or messaging bill. They know it will fail a constitutional test, but it serves to throw red meat to the lunatic fringe base. Roe V Wade should have been put into law by Congress. It was always shaky legal ground to say that the Constitution guarantees the right to abortion Roe v Wade was the best that could be done. Likely it’s still the best we can do. As long as the Political Right believes abortion is absolutely wrong, they will be able to mobilize their side to block any nationwide law.
