The price of property sounds astonishing but a regular apartment type condo in the suburbs a mere 5-10 minutes away is about $750,000. A perfectly ordinary house is above a million. It’s just when the parents reach the point where they consider downsizing their house, they do that, but they’re also upsizing their property. These are mostly about 5 – 20 acre parcels. It’s not even the down payment. I have the 20%. But the fuckin interest rates make any condo or townhouse $3000-3500/month. Damn I agree! my situation was a bit different though. My dad was murdered and my mom was in prison ‘not for murdering my dad’ hehehe it was either go to work and support myself or become another statistic in the US foster care system. Im grateful that at that age I was wise enough to make the choice I did This is what I did. I moved to another city and ended up coming back home after a relationship ended. I’m an only child and get along with my parents really well. They told me to stay for as long as I wanted while saving up for a place. So I did that and a couple years later I bought my own place. I was in my early 30’s when I bought the place for reference. living with your parents is pretty common outside the US. i have no idea why it’s so stigmatized here. if you have a healthy relationship with your parents why not? Because most peoples parents in the U.S. regard their children as closer to pets at this point. I don’t want to have a pet for more than 18 years.

But its pretty common for people to live with roommates when they are young and before settling into a relationship. Nothing wrong with it. And nothing wrong with living with your parents to save money. Get a partner or roommate. There’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t know why people think they should automatically be able to afford a house or apartment just getting started in life. It’s no big deal. I don’t want to pressure anyone to get into a romantic relationship, but people should be able to form lasting platonic friendships. Today I learned about “hobosexuals” who are people, typically men, who get into relationships so that they have a place to live. Maybe it’s just that rent in my area has gone up over 30% but I don’t remember those guys from 20 years ago. I realise this will sound mad to you that I don’t know 🙂 If they say it about a regular apartment(flat) then they almost certainly mean they just share the common areas of the apartment and have separate bedrooms.
