Why not start off with saying that interest rates for student loans must be low/lowered. This starts as a small initial compromise. If they take out a loan to pay for school they are paying back what they have acquired (an education). I think trying to achieve this will appease a greater number of people than forgiving loans. Those that have already paid back their loans will not be ahead or behind, and those that already have loans will only have to pay for what they received. (Yes I still acknowledge that tuition/room/board is way overpriced). I don’t get it. You accept the terms of the loan and sign. Now you want out?! Explain why and share other examples where this has been done. What has changed from loan acceptance and today. My two cents. Loan interest should be forgiven and eliminated moving forward. All previous loans that have been paid off, the interest charged should be allowed to be written off in tax return over the same time period as payments. Fix the broken system! It’s clearly not tenable. I’d be in favor of 0% interest on these loans, but not forgiveness. It would benefit me but I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. You agree to a loan, pay it back.

Does it include a plan to make college free? I’m just wondering if it would be a thing that would just affect the current generation. How about we concentrate on Medicare for all rather than bailing out people who willingly take on debt? No one should be crippled by debt for getting sick. Taking on a loan for education is optional. Medical treatment is not. Medical debt should be taken care of first. No reason an accident or a condition they didn’t choose should be a lifelong debt, often running much higher than someone’s choice of a college degree. I want nice things for other people. I also don’t mind paying more taxes for it. I have been fortunate and I want other people to have an easier life. I don’t appose helping students because my loans are payed off, but I also don’t believe paying out all off is the answer. Schools still demand you take so many years of classes for their degrees even if they’re useless classes just because they want to be able to charge you max profit. You need to limit the cost of education. I also think giving some kinda tax credit to former recent students is also fair, because alot of us having been asking for help for ages and this is only now a serious discussion.
