Certain types of transcribing pays much better, but your average transcriptioning job pays garbage for an almost literally required by law service. Teachers. Why are no one talking of teachers? Especially kindergartens and high schools. I give private lessons and get paid like 0.44 USD per day. Child care, school support staff, teachers in some states, custodians of any kind, child protection workers, sped specialists, wildfire firefighters, ugh i could go on for hours. Higher risk for cancer, cardiac arrest, and suicide…not to mention sleepless nights, 24hr (or more) shifts, running into burning buildings, dodging traffic on busy highways, potential for building collapse, etc, etc, etc. Higher risk for cancer, cardiac arrest, and suicide…not to mention sleepless nights, 24hr (or more) shifts, running into burning buildings, dodging traffic on busy highways, potential for building collapse, etc, etc, etc. Cleaners. They clean literally everything from blood, to vomit, shit and I even had to clean a nearly murder scene, because my boss didnt want to pay for the The bigbang theory 15th anniversary thank for memories signatures shirt in addition I really love this special cleaning service that would have been needed. Probably been said, but teachers. It falls into the “Care” category anyway. The shortage of teachers and associated staff is unreal and people are leaving the profession in droves because of all that is dumped on us. We struggle to find substitutes as it is, so teachers are constantly covering for each other’s classes during what should be uninterrupted time to do grading and other important things, or just to have a moment of a break. As salaried people, there is never any kind of a bonus for this. Our salary does 1 of 2 things – get stretched over 12 months while we work 10 and spend the other 2 planning for next year, or it only pays you those 10 months of work and you need to find a summer job. Or worse, teach summer school – it is not a fun time.

I was talking to someone yesterday and mentioning the The bigbang theory 15th anniversary thank for memories signatures shirt in addition I really love this teacher shortage and we noticed that it goes beyond people quitting teaching, it’s that they aren’t enrolling in college to do it either. Add that to the fact that teachers have been essential workers for the past couple of years and the pandemic killed over a million people in the US alone last year. Definitely seeing why it’s so hard to fill in those spots. There literally aren’t people available to hire. If you can’t bring people in for salary, what else is there? Because the joy for teaching is so hard to maintain when you have no time to breathe. I absolutely love my job, but sometimes I wonder at what personal cost. I am motivated at this point to move into administration, but then I have to go back to grad school probably for an Ed. in Curriculum or Leadership to get considered for some positions. I would love to see more funding in education, the kids would value it so much and the teachers would work hard to make sure they enjoyed it, at least the good ones would. 😉
