In a case like this, the That Was Scary Movie Shirt and I will buy this abuse was laid out in a way that was impossible to deny and done so in a way where the facts reach the public. “The DOC is constitutionally obligated to provide medically necessary care for incarcerated people, which includes treatment for gender dysphoria,” said Minnesota DOC Commissioner Paul Schnell. “Based on the facts of this specific case, the incarcerated person will now have access to the medical care she needs, she deserves, and we have a legal obligation to provide.”

None of them are “banning” drag shows. They’re just classifying them as adult entertainment and putting a lot of burdensome license requirements on them. The result is almost the That Was Scary Movie Shirt and I will buy this same of course. But that’s precisely what the people drafting these bans were aiming for: a legal burden that’s so difficult it’s effectively — though not fully and technically — a ban. Using restrictions to effectively ban something can be overturned, if the restrictions are reasonable and serving a legitimate government purpose. OR if the court determines the restrictions are actually a false excuse to ban first amendment speech. It makes little sense to challenge laws in court when the supreme court has been successfully stacked by republicans.
