So if you made your own tenders/nuggets it would cost $12.40 or $1.90 more than the Texas Rangers American League Champions Soda Sports shirt moreover I will buy this frozen, you’d still have over half a kg of flour left over and you’d probably get double the amount of actual chicken meat. It’s the opposite in the US. I can buy chicken drumsticks for $0.99/pound. Whole chicken for $0.69/pound and boneless breasts for $1.99/pound You replied to a post listing zero meat options complaining about the price of meat. In the original image there is no meat on the right hand side. An extra 2 bucks for some actual chicken thighs one of the best cuts of chicken vs over processed chicken nuggets doesn’t sound like a good deal aside from putting some shit food on your kids plate. Granted spuds in Australia have been fucked for a while cos of the floods and current price gouging but potatoes aren’t a necessary food group. Your comment about potatoes is wrong. I operate a restaurant in Canada, the grocery store sells 20lb bags of potatoes for $10. Show me where I can buy 20lbs of potato chips for $10. Also Costco sells whole rotisory chicken for $8 ($6 if it’s cold not hot), your cost per lbs of actual chicken, which is more than kilo here. Rice is like $25 for 40lbs, there is a reason Asian countries eat that shit 3 times a day. You’re telling me that mechanically recovered meat bulked up with bread is cheaper per unit mass than chicken breast? Well I’m shocked. How is this possible? You’re missing a huge part of this equation – even if ingredients cost the same as processed foods, preparing & cooking food takes time & resources. You have less time available for this when you’re poor. For example: don’t have a car? Spend an hour or more using public transit when it could be a 20 minute drive. As for resources, maybe you don’t have access to a working stove, or proper tools. There are more factors here than simply up front cost.

I hate spinach but I chunk it frozen into my smoothies. And my kid eats frozen blueberries like candy during the Texas Rangers American League Champions Soda Sports shirt moreover I will buy this warm months. We make fun of rich people for being out of touch with how life works for the rest of us, but just growing up/living comfortably is often just as blinding to the struggles that you go through when you’re poor. Also nobody finishes their 12 hour shift at the gas station, gets the bus back to their moldy 4 person apartment share and thinks “Mmmmm, I really fancy a spinach and kale salad.” And more often than not, those cheaper vegetables and meats are already half rotting in the packages. If you look at the lettuce in a cheap local grocery store I guarantee there’s brown rotten juice in the bottom of the bin and brown leave on every head. It’s disgusting how more privileged people believe that the working poor and those in poverty just deserve this kind of food and expect us to eat it without complaint.
