The tank still has some value, it can shoot, but it’s now a lesser issue. Tanks that can still move AND shoot are higher priorities. Not as good as a dead tank, but better than a fresh tank. This convoy is a mobility kill. It can shoot back, but can’t actually advance. They are left behind, ignored, whatever. A wounded soldier needs 1) a few friends to drag him to the aid station, and thus more troops out of combat 2) medicine which means less bullets (space is limited) 3) food, which means less for the frontline 4) transport back to hospitals which mean less fuel for tanks and 5) all the support staff for the medical trucks, hospital cooks, nurses, doctors, all of which means less infantrymen. AND, a soldier missing a leg or arm, or something, can’t come back to the front, can’t be a support soldier, can’t work in the factories, and can only take up resources. So is still a “dead” person, they can’t fight, but they take up space and resources.

So wounding soldiers is better than killing them. It’s why mines are so feared, they aren’t really designed to kill. They can’t move forward, due to no gas. But they still need supplies (food, etc), which means more vehicles to supply them with those consumables, which means more vehicles to use the limited gas, which increases congestion, and decreases the likelyhood of efficient supply use, which means more supplies will be needed, which means more trucks, which means more congestion which means less efficiency, which means more trucks which means… Every truck supplying those soldiers, every soldier stuck, every liter gas burned idling to keep warm in a still cold winter, is a soldier NOT supporting the breakthroughs in the South, or the East. AND means more time for the limited defenders to make more obstacles, to make longer waits, to get more time to fortify, collect their own supplies, bring reinforcements, etc.
