At least in my experience, I’ve never seen any photo or video evidence of real ‘on the ground’ proof of help by these companies for their charitable offers to these causes. I prefer to support charitable organisations who disclose where the funds go & what they’re used for. I also support those who show video evidence & doco’s about their work & how it’s making a real world difference. FWIW, I get the same “donation” thing from local pop-mom shop, not a billion dollar company. Sometimes it’s for “can you support our LOCAL ” I trust this even less than a large corporation. It’s much easier for a small operation to make this money disappear into their pocket than a large company because there are fewer eyes on the books and less of a chance of being audited. Not to mention if they don’t have a digital paper trail then it’s basically a cash donation to the owner’s Ferrari fund.

Do some legitimate research people. Corporate entities (especially large ones) keep very tight books on all of these things and are frequently audited. That’s not to say that shady things don’t happen, but it’s a pretty safe bet that the money you round up with at the electronic register is going where it should. Also, the amount donated through these types of charities is crazy. Way more than if people were expected to find the charity, go to their website and make a donation. If you don’t want to donate, then don’t. If you feel guilty because they asked and you refused, that’s a you problem.
