It was right in the Tad’s chicken and dumpling shirt Apart from…,I will love this heart of the pandemic when national parks started opening for the first time. Except I didn’t really know that some parks were planning on opening again anytime soon. We were cooped up in the house for months and I had never been to Yosemite before, despite it being within a days drive away. I casually check the website to see what the opening status was and it turns out they had literally just just spinned up their new reservation system for the park that same day. I was able to get tickets in the heart of the summer of 2020 on an ideal long weekend date. The next day, the entirety of the year was already booked up. We went, it was glorious. No crowds anywhere. The falls were still pretty good. Perfect weather. Spent a solid 4 nights camping in and around and got to experience the park with population numbers that probably haven’t been that low since the 70s. Some of the more out of the way trails like cathedral lakes were totally without people except for a couple of through hikers we ran into.

We went back a year later with some family that were in town, and while it still wasn’t total chaos as they had the Tad’s chicken and dumpling shirt Apart from…,I will love this reservation system going still, it was a lot busier. Now that entry restrictions are even more relaxed I feel like the only way I could comfortably experience it again is if I went during the off season. I’m pretty sure there will never be a moment again in the future where anyone could experience the park without crowds in the middle of peak visitor season. I walked into a bathroom as I was arriving at the airport in Las Vegas and found an envelope with about $2000 in it. No identification. Just cash. My friends and I argued about what to do with it(turn it in, or keep it?). What would you do in this “lucky” moment? I was in Tanzania and had just arrived on Zanzibar and got sick. I suspect it was food poisoning. I had been so excited to explore Stone Town and go on spice tours, but I spent two days throwing up in my small hotel room. On the third day, with no particular plan in place and nothing booked, but feeling a little better, I took all my stuff and got on a shared truck heading to Jambiyana, a beach area on the other side of the island.
