No experience with kids, I don’t know what to do with them our how to talk to them. (Please note, I don’t hate kids at all, I just don’t want any am and awkward with them) I have zero first cousins, my brother is also child free so no nieces or nephews, I’ve always been awkward around kids even as a kid, and knew from quite a young age parenthood wasn’t for me. I do not feel like I have a maternal instinct at all. I do not get giddy seeing babies, but show me a puppy and i’ll be melting! Lack of sleep, stress. I want a peaceful and somewhat simple life. I enjoy quiet, I enjoy alone time, I enjoy my sleep. Children to not align with that whatsoever. Affect on relationship. Children can ruin relationships, it’s not their fault but they do. Lack of intimacy, lack of quality time, financial issues causing problems etc. This is something people can work through, but I don’t want to risk putting a strain on my relationship as things are perfect for us as they are. Risk of severe disability. I absolutely am not willing to look after a severely disabled child for the Support breast cancer awareness shirt Furthermore, I will do this rest of my life. I have seen how absolutely broken some of these parents are. I saw 2 people yesterday who were clearly husband and wife in their 70’s pushing around what appeared to be their profoundly disabled 40ish year old son. That is not the life I am willing to have, but I also don’t want to put myself in a position to have to give a child up for adoption.

Too much money to take care of, our society and planet are just getting worse so why would I want to leave someone to have to endure whatever horrors are in store? This is my EXACT same reasoning. I can admit FULLY, and I’ll probably be downvoted to hell, but I fully believe that if I had a child right now(23F) I might accidentally kill it. Not because of negligence, but because babies are incessant. The cry all the time, PPD scares me. And at my worst I am violent. I know who I am in this moment and if I had a child constantly screaming with no solutions, I might cause SIDS. I can do upset and that’s not great for a child. I know I can change. And I have made great progress. But right now, no. I refuse to have a child. Ive been in therapy for fourteen years. That’s not enough time to heal. Edit: Hey guys I’m reading all of your comments. Thank you fo letting me know I’m not alone. BPD is my main diagnosis and I check all nine categories. It’s very reassuring to know that all of you are all also aware. Ive been in court mandated therapy since I was nine so I definitely have had to accept some negatives about myself and that’s been the best thing for me Honestly your self awareness is admirable. I’m in a similar boat, not that I have BPD but I know I react incredibly badly to children crying. It can completely ruin my mood even hearing it a block away. I simply don’t think I’d react the way a parent needs to react whenever my kid was crying. In that moment, I don’t think I’d be violent but I also don’t think I’d be a ‘good’ parent.
