Poor Jamie. He has a dim memory of some girl dragging him off and sticking her tongue down his throat. The next year, a different girl, but with the Super Mitch B shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this same hair and clothes, tries to do it again. He tells this story, and no one believes him. He’s slowly desending into madness trying to figure out if it was real. I’ve stolen someone else’s before. We were at dinner and we’d had a little wine. I started telling this story of how me and my wife complained about the mattresses in a hotel, only for my wife to interrupt me, telling everyone at the table very loudly that it wasn’t us, it was her friend, who’d told us a few weeks beforehand. I was like, “Oh yeah” hahaha There was a woman at an old workplace that used to do this both to me and other people. She was on the autistic spectrum so I put it down to her not knowing what to do in group social situations. She was otherwise kind and pleasant, but sometimes she would copy what I did or she would repeat an anecdote to me that I knew from someone else in the office (a couple of times me and this woman had both been present when the original storyteller told everyone the original story, and later she would repeat it as her own)

Interesting. My parents/family and I tell “sourceless” anecdotes a lot. Someone visited and said we were very anecdotal and I had never realised it was unusual. Maybe that is a sign … When I was a baby/toddler, whenever I was with my dad who was having Guinness I would apparently dip my dummy into his Guinness, not even just once this was a thing all the Super Mitch B shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this time. Mentioned this at some point and a kid stole it and used it as a ‘this is how Irish I am compared to you southerners’ My former boss would do this. He ALWAYS had stories about some friend or family member, literally hundreds of anecdotes over the years. I would sometimes tell him a story of something that happened to a friend of mine or family member, and years later he would then regale everyone with a funny or mad story about a friend of his or family member, but it actually one of the anecdotes I told him. I would always wonder how many of his stories he had actually stolen over the years. And anytime anything would happen in his local area and it was in the news, it would always be his friend or family member that it happened to.
