And yet companies give their employees Headspace subscriptions because mindfulness is a good way to cope with stress (apparently). This isn’t a Reddit problem, this is a first world problem. I hate to be bringer of bad news, but many real, licensed doctors give the Sultans of Salmonella shirt and I will buy this same advice. It’s wild these days. At least it can be discussed here so people can see a counterpoint. There are wrong ways. Misinformation is wrong, not being able to distinguish spirituality from reality is wrong, just to name a few. If we don’t judge them as wrong, then they spread and taint a sacred space meant for growth, healing, and practicing acceptance. I’m all for keeping the discussion grounded in consensual reality without going all New-agey and shit, but what exactly do you mean by “distinguish spirituality from reality”? Careful with that. None of us know which is which. Any distinction you make is completely arbitrary.

Hm, interesting hearing your concerns as well. Can you explain the Sultans of Salmonella shirt and I will buy this difference between spirituality and reality? Someone says misleading information and then it’s our job to tell the person that they are speaking incorrectly. Yes it’s only our job precisely because there ARE wrong ways. Your initial post is somewhat dismissive of this fact, and it’s the whole reason OP and others like them care enough to raise these concerns to the community. Do you agree these are legitimate concerns? First lots of traditions with legitimately good meditation tech add lots of wuwu elements. Meditation can do lots of pretty incredible stuff, so it makes sense that people stumble upon these things and aren’t sure whether they are real. Especially when considering that the group looking into meditation might be more willing to believe such things. The pragmatic dharma community e.g. dharmaoverground, Daniel Ingram might be of interest to you.
