Stoned Jesus Indian Shirt

The Stoned Jesus Indian Shirt emerged in the mid-1990s as a response to the rampant exploitation and marginalization of Native Americans in North America. It was originally designed by Lakota artist Jimmy Durham to reclaim the distorted image of Jesus often depicted in Western culture and to assert the cultural identity and pride of Indigenous peoples.

Stoned Jesus Indian Shirt: buy and enjoy this shirt

At its core, the Stoned Jesus Indian Shirt embodies the sacred relationship between Native Americans and the divine. The image of Jesus adorned with traditional Native American regalia symbolizes the interconnectedness of all beings and the belief in a transcendent spiritual realm. The “stoned” aspect of Jesus is a reference to the peyote cactus, a sacramental plant used by many Native American tribes for spiritual ceremonies.

The Stoned Jesus Indian Shirt has also become a powerful symbol of cultural resistance and empowerment for Native Americans. It has been worn by Indigenous leaders and activists as a statement of pride and defiance against historical oppression and ongoing discrimination. By embracing this garment, Native Americans assert their right to self-determination and the preservation of their cultural traditions.
