I’m not gonna lie, Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt being blended together into one myth by the passage of time is… actually a really clever touch, and a great way to mix in the old joke about Death having to come for Teddy while he was asleep. Inspired, is what Stitch Is My Spirit Animal shirt is, and I can’t help but wonder if there’s a heretical Rooseveltian cult who also calls him by names like “Banner” and “Hyde”. Honestly, this lore is rad as hell. Also, the way Ben Franklin was created in this mythology is some of the most metal shit I’ve ever read. Bravo, good sir.

Also, the way Ben Franklin was created in this mythology is some of the most metal shit I’ve ever read. Just wondering, was the Ben Franklin thing in some way a reference to Mimir from Norse mythology? Very different origin story but similar goal and purpose, since in many myths Stitch Is My Spirit Animal shirt is said that only Mimir could give an accurate prediction for the situation of Ragnorok. I didn’t consciously draw on Mimir, but the legend of Ben Franklin’s birth was somewhat inspired by the creation of Kvasir, and Odin hanging himself. And as a historian, it’s really a great fictional and contemporary look at how many myths actually warped and formed over time.

Zora Neale Hurston did a lot for African American folk tales, specifically.
