This is literally the Stitch and toothless pizza papa john’s shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this most annoying thing that I was completely stroking over every time I tried speaking/understand the stupid language. It’s like learning inverted control but for effing speech. This shit triggers me hard. I love German but the one but that gets me is ‘Sie’ being both they and she. But there is a different word for he? It is the same with ihr and it just makes no sense to me If you are English and need want to learn a Germanic language, Norwegian is here do you, it’s the easiest language for a native English person to learn Long answer: It’s a combination of the archaic “Long S”, which is easily confused for an ‘f’ in older texts, and the less archaic Ezh letter, which looks like a weird 3 with a straight top line rather than a curvy one. Then, as these two letters were written together often historically (before the printing press probably) they gradually got closer and closer, and eventually merged into one letter.

In German orthography, the Stitch and toothless pizza papa john’s shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this letter ẞ, called Eszett (IPA: [ɛsˈtsɛt]) and scharfes S (IPA: [ˌʃaʁfəs ˈʔɛs], “sharp S”), represents the /s/ phoneme in Standard German when following long vowels and diphthongs. The letter-name Eszett combines the names of the letters of ⟨s⟩ (Es) and ⟨z⟩ (Zett) in German. The character’s Unicode names in English are sharp s and eszett. The Eszett letter is used only in German, and can be typographically replaced with the double-s digraph ⟨ss⟩, if the ß-character is unavailable. If an Englishman had invented the printing press instead of a German, we’d probably have the same conversation about þ and “th”. And it’s even worse for the Dutch, as “wie” means “who” in Dutch but “how” in German, which would be “hoe” in Dutch, which sounds much more like “wo”. Also, “there” is not “do” for some reason. Now “este” vs. “ese” in Spanish is as confusing as “this” and “that” must be for non-English speakers. (The mnemonic I learned: the “t” is for “touch”, so “este” is the closer one.)
