You dodged a bullet. You don’t want to work somewhere with people petty enough to operate this way. You don’t owe a company anything, especially one you haven’t even worked for. I had an interview once, got accepted and was handed bits to sign and return. But I also had another interview scheduled for a different job. I waited as long as I could so that I could finish the second interview and ultimately decided to drop the first job. They even tried to sway me by offering an extra £2k and hybrid working second option was just a bit better for me. If their email system is setup to automatically give you 5 days to accept why was the offer letter short dated?

Also, they do sound like assholes to text you saying you did not accept in time. Majorly unprofessional of them. Is that how you go about your life just doing things at the absolute last second? Why didn’t you follow up and ask for clarification on the conflicting dates? Also if you REALLY wanted and needed the job, didn’t you accept already? This happened to me except it was my ex manager that told me to apply, and he could get me an interview with this great company he works for now. The company then sent me a personalized letter of recommendation from him, and that they were looking forward to interviewing me. So I applied (like I already told him I would be when I got the recommendation email). He checks in with me a day or so after I applied asking if I ACTUALLY applied. Weird but yes.. I say I did. “Okay no problem, just wanted to make sure.” Cool. Then no sooner does he say that, do I check my email seconds later, and I see a very obviously automated rejection email. I am not being considered for the next hiring phase (interview). I tell him. He says he’ll look into it. Nothing. Ghosted by all of them. Pretty awkward too because we were always friendly after our last work experience together. He was always a reference of mine. Someone fucked up at that company and didn’t tell Mr. Resume rejector what my name was or who I was. Sad that it’s truly not what you know, it’s who you know. Guess I didn’t play their game right. Fuck me right?
