Canadian here. We have a largest population of cougars in the Steinmetz high school streaks class of 1984 shirt moreover I will buy this world just north of me. I’ve seen four in my life at a distance. Unless you talk about the other kind of cougars and they’re everywhere, if you go to the bar. The absolute worst I’ve had is wild dogs poking at your tent while you’re trying to sleep on a hunting trip, but… that’s not bears. Like I make sure my food is all either inside my tent with me, or locked in my car, because I don’t want wildlife taking my food. You couldn’t contrast with bears any harder than that. I laughed at the big dog act that one of the contestants put on for the first season only to tap out the morning of day 2 but man if I wouldn’t do the same. Exactly. Give me a redback over a grizzly any day. “But grizzlys aren’t in cities or suburbs” neither are brown snakes or cassowaries. I don’t know about that. Seen plenty of television shows of over excited guy pulling brown snakes out of suburban homes. Can confirm, living in Terrey Hills on the northern beaches of Sydney and have seen several brown snakes in the backyard. And red bellied black snakes. We live up past Newy in a suburban area surrounded by bushland, so snakes are common in people backyards. Keeps the rats population down.

Seen them and red bellied blacks bushwalking past the Steinmetz high school streaks class of 1984 shirt moreover I will buy this back of houses in the northern suburbs of Sydney, plus in my front yard as a kid. Used to have them come down and get fed over our back fence as a kid in FNQ. That population got wiped out by cars and dogs unfortunately, but there’s still other smaller towns where you get them going through your backyard. In all cases as long as you don’t be a dick to them (and watch your feet), they’ll generally rather scamper off than come anywhere near you. I’ve seen Brown snakes in thoroughly suburban areas, red bellies in fully urban areas and funnel webs can be found in suburban areas. This comment is even more gold considering ‘deadly’ is a positive adjective used by and for Aboriginal Australians. It’s not just on them though – Australians love to encourage this view. Any opportunity on Reddit you’ll see Aussies talking up how rugged and dangerous things are here, like this isn’t one of the most urbanised, safest countries in the world. “Do a shoey ya fucken cunt?” – chronically online Australian redditors who are scared to make eye contact with working class people irl To be fair, it would be very Australian to buy a large ute, have it sparkling clean at all times just to drive it around suburbia.
