Those Early Bird kits are worth a fortune now if they are complete or still sealed. Like $2000+ for them. They are exceedingly rare to find. 1 more replyI mean same reason with preorders, the Staycation Destination Haunted House And Ghosts Halloween T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this knowledge that you have a gift in flight brings joy, the gift arriving brings joy. The fact that they literally sold a piece of cardboard that said, “We’ll mail you the toys later,” as a Christmas gift and it sold pretty well is just hilarious I was under the impression that the IOU cardboard coupon thing was NOT actually all that successful – also, it resulted in some laws that prohibited anyone from every doing that kind of sale again (Kenner ended up producing the figs, but I can imagine the government was worried about someone selling a bunch of coupons like that, then either going bankrupt or outright disappearing and defrauding people.)

It was successful enough, the Staycation Destination Haunted House And Ghosts Halloween T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this problem was major big box stores refused to sell it. It at least sold well enough that it kept Kenner afloat long enough for the toys to be delivered in March of 78 and the rest of the line to roll out later. Yeah, I’m not saying it was a failure, but I understand it wasn’t nearly the blowout seller than the actually figures were when they were finally released (they naturally expected the film to be passé by 1978, but it turned out to have far more staying power than typical films). In Mattel’s case it actually pushed them to make toys for Battlestar Galactica and He Man. Funnily enough, Battstar Galactica toys were responsible for the infamous jetpack missle Boba Fett thing where after a kid died due to swallowing a missle fired from a Battlestar toy, they went back and glued in the missles on Boba Fett figures that were a mail in promotion reward. Non glued figures are worth a small fortune. After that they attempted to make Conan the Barbarian toys due to the movie but after watching it and realizing it wasn’t really meant for kids, reworked them into He Man and the Masters of the Universe. People forget that for every success like star wars, there are dozens of failures that are forgotten to history
