In more technical (but simplified) version, the Start The Mission Loading Vintage Wild Wanderlust T-Shirt In addition,I will do this vast majority of modern software handles translations through “keys” rather than developers having to go through every line in every piece of software to add the new language. So there may be a key tag like frontend.greeting.title which is what is actually in the code, and somewhere will be a file for English: And the software will have a piece of code handling this when the menus are rendered based on the user’s language. What likely happened here was that the tag for ZIP as in a mail address code for the US postal service was inadvertently used instead of the key for ZIP as in the file type. The OS doesn’t do any additional translation on strings in the localisation table – the whole point of the table is that the strings in it are already translated and don’t require any further translation. It’s much more likely that some bright spark lazily did a find and replace for all instances of “zip” in the translation table itself, thinking they were doing a clever bit of localisation. I localize software. We don’t always know what we’re working on. We don’t always see the strings or line IDs that can provide additional information. The strings are not always provided in logical order. So you’re working on a file referring to address fields and all of a sudden the developer decided to add a few strings about something completely unrelated and we’re left in the dark. For instance, in the software for my scanner the actual SCAN button has been translated into my language with SEARCH. So the translator had no clue or it was a machine translation and it has been overlooked during testing (or the test was skipped). OP’s example may be a joke but it’s not inconceivable. When we’re posting on r/casualinternationalreadership I might conform to this… Oxford… but for now, I’d rather be dead than replace ‘s’ with ‘z’.

I always find the Start The Mission Loading Vintage Wild Wanderlust T-Shirt In addition,I will do this Oxford Dictionary a little weird for their love of “z” in those words, especially as Oxford University state “-ise” must be used in words such as “organise”. I know the dictionary and university are different institutions but it just feels wrong for the two famous Oxford thingies to fight over this. We had this: Some text referring to an “input field” in English was translated to the German equivalent of “input meadow”. You typically have localisation files. E.g. it’s would be en-gb as opposed en-us. The software user’s those files to render all text. It’s entirely possible that a developer just copied the US English localisation files and replaced certain words. Because otherwise when the OS wants to create a .zip file it would create a .postcode file, and havoc would ensue. I’m sure they wouldn’t blindly replace all instances in the code, I would expect strings like this are stored in a certain type of file, and they’d only do the sed on those what it should have done is replaced “zip code” with “postcode” otherwise you’re going to get “postcode code” all over the place. I noticed a similar issue on an old Mac ages ago while playing chess (badly) – whenever I was in check, the voice would say ‘tick’. It took me a while (and quite a few checks) before I realised that it was doing it because the symbol ✔ is a ‘tick’ in English and a ‘check’ in American.
