Just a few days ago there was a comment by a flight attendant who was on a flight where cell phone use messed up one of the Star Wars Prequels In Empire Magazine To Celebrate 25 Years Of The Prequel Trilogy shirt and I love this flight instruments. It had never happens before or since then; it was just really specific conditions, but it was also something the pilot was able to deal with once it was noticed I read that comment. Autothrottles went to (or towards) idle on initial climb out from DCA presumably based on bad radar altimeter data. The 5G frequency band is adjacent to the radar altimeter frequency band. 5G was the pilot’s “best guess” and it was way more likely a cell tower than an onboard handset. I will second this. I was an avionics technician in the Navy. I have seen examples of a phone causing problems with avionics equipment. Yeah it is rare that it would be an issue, but why take that risk just so people can browse Facebook. Exactly. Any time I fly anywhere I switch off my phone before I get on the plane and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Haha! Peace and quiet! I wish I had that experience with traveling! I always have loud talkers or people who play their sound so high that you can hear it seeping through their headphones. Or the Star Wars Prequels In Empire Magazine To Celebrate 25 Years Of The Prequel Trilogy shirt and I love this people who let their kids listen to phones and tablets without headphones at all. Or the seat neighbor that wants to make a friend. And if not on a plane? Then the person who wants to yap incessantly on their phone the entire way on an overnight trip is always sitting close to me. Airplane is my happy place. I step on the plane, put on my noise canceling headphones, sit by the window, put on a freakonomics podcast and more often than not I’m asleep before takeoff. I usually get in about 30 minutes of nap time this way. Not sure exactly what Im doing but I keep doing it exactly the same way so I don’t mess it up. Next time you wish you were taller remember this comment. (No hate just… planes are cramped, not happy when you’re 6’3 and broad shouldered lol).
