Conservatism comes from a place of socio-political fear of the Squad Call Las Vegas Raider shirt in addition I really love this unknown and unfamiliar. So to combat that fear, conservatism fixates on power and hierarchy as a way to destroy the things they’re afraid of. A little fear is a useful tool against recklessness, a lot of fear is a mind killer. In a fear based state of mind, all you care about is how you can get yours and fuck everyone else. The problem is that humanity’s development is primarily based on cooperation. Sure we have plenty of aspects of competition and exploitation mixed in, but we would not be at the top of the food chain if weren’t so good at developing from cooperative social structures. And once your world view starts being based on fear, you diverge from the cooperative mindset that made humanity so powerful and start making selfish, irrational and monumentally stupid decisions and outlooks.

The ‘economic deprivation’ theory was very popular during Trump’s first few years, remember all the Squad Call Las Vegas Raider shirt in addition I really love this media hand-wringing about the ‘white working class’? So social scientists did studies and found it isn’t true. People aren’t MAGA because they’re economically deprived or marginalized, they’re MAGA because they think they’re in the higher echelons of the social hierarchy and will fight to maintain to maintain that position through any means necessary. People who tend MAGA are “racially resentful” and “sexually resentful” and “resentful of foreigners” and “resentful of other religions.” Detecting a theme yet? Right wing propaganda traffics in fear, that’s why Fox News and the like are always shrieking about the “total breakdown” of various things that are basically unchanged (crime rates, people arriving at the southern border, etc)–fear is how they rope in people on the fringes of MAGA and create a sense of urgency that makes extremism seem justified.
