Just checked your channel — highly suggest never repeating the Some Of Us Grew Up Listening To Queen The Cool Ones Still Do Shirt and by the same token and video title within the text of the thumbnail.. it’s far too repetitive. I’m bi-polar at this point … one day, my channel is going to blow up… the next minute I’m going to be working minimum wage. Depends on your content and audience. I don’t need to connect with my audience at all, as 90% of my traffic is coming from search. I just made the video, thumbnail and title as engaging if not MORE engaging than YouTubers in the same niche getting millions of views. First couple videos got like 100 views over a few days but as I posted weekly for months it’s gone up to 3000 views a day total. Gotta put out stuff people wanna see. I started with one… which was myself… lol. It wasn’t until my fourth video- a short, when I started to get views. It was on the suggested for a space launch video. Then again on a later video did views increase. It’s back down again. It’s easier to focus on your videos and what you need to improve on rather than numbers. It doesn’t always make sense. I’ve got shorts that didn’t get any plays for months then I look again they got 1000 views. I retitled my channel a few times to get to what I want and I’m still moving forwards. I think my first video ever got like, 12 views? but that was 2011 and it’s no longer online (it was bad content too – speedpainting with music I made myself, with no real added value)

I’ve just started uploading this Sunday, so my opinion hasn’t much weight (… yet). However, while I’d be ecstatic if I went super viral with my first videos, I know that I’d also be overwhelmed by the Some Of Us Grew Up Listening To Queen The Cool Ones Still Do Shirt and by the same token and attention, the comments, notifications, the pressure, etc. Would I be able to live up to such a big audience’s expectations? I’m not sure. On the other hand, if it takes me between 2 ~ 5 years (which is the average timeline for success from what I’ve read here and there), I’d be more accustomed to YouTube as a whole: how to deal with content, people, etc. Whenever I get low views I take it as a challenge to improve my next video. Although sometimes quality doesn’t follow how many views you get. One of my worst videos (from a pure editing point of view, the audio mixing is terrible) is also by far my most popular, it somehow got over 100,000 views and I only have a little over 200 subscribers (with the vast majority coming from that video). I just hit the right subject and got lucky. I do wish that my other videos were also getting a fraction of that popularity, but I always try to look at my previous videos and see what I can improve. I think if you try that, then your channel will always have a chance to be “IT”, it just depends what your goals are. Of course if you’re doing videos in a very niche segment, being “IT” could be getting 1000 subscribers and that’s it. But I think as long as you can see it as a hobby, as something fun to do, a creative outlet, then you might as well keep going. If not for your viewers, then for yourself 🙂
